In order to work out what size dish you would need to receive a signal in a particular place, it’s necessary to look at a “footprint” map such as the ones shown here. A footprint is the area within which a satellite’s transmissions can be
received. Every satellite has its own footprint and beams down its own channels.

These footprints maps are provided by SES-Astra and Eutelsat who own and operate the satellites which broadcast the channels that are of interest to British viewers. Footprints are the same whether you’re using a free to air receiver, a freesat receiver or one from Sky.

ASTRA 2D. Channels include: BBC TV 1, 2, 3, 4, ITV 1, 2, 3, 4, Channel 4, Film 4, Five & some radio stations. Also some SKY subscription channels inc. SKY Box Office.
ASTRA 2 SOUTH. Channels include: SKY News, BBC News 24, CNN, BBC radios 1, 2, 3, 4 S4C, and many
SKY subscription channels including Five, Five US & Fiver, some SKY Sports, Bravo, Discovery, National Geographic and many more.
Maps 4 & 5: Map 3:
ASTRA 2 NORTH. Channels include: Channel 4 (Available on Sky only with a viewing card), some ITV channels (Available on Sky only with a viewing card), SKY subscription channels including SKY Box Office, some SKY Sports and SKY 1, 2 & 3 and many more.
EUROBIRD 1. The majority of the channels transmitted on Eurobird are broadcast without encryption and so can be received using any satellite receiver. Some Sky channels and a lot of radio stations are
also broadcast from these satellites. With an 85cm dish, most channels can be received all over Spain and Portugal and into Eastern Europe. Even with a smaller dish - 50cm for example - some channels can still be received in these places. Channels broadcast on Eurobird include: Movies4Men, Information TV, Al Jazeera, The Vault (and many other music channels), Horse & Country, France 24 (English), Film 24, Russia Today, Bloomberg UK, Vintage TV, True Movies, Travel Channel and loads of radio stations too.
The satellite footprints shown above are the “official” ones. However, RoadPro has conducted extensive tests over
conditions and other factors. The receiver, the accuracy with which the dish is aligned and the LNB setting will all
much of Europe and we reckon that these footprint maps make a difference. Our footprint maps should only be are pessimistic. You can see some examples below and used as a rough guide. Bear in mind too that the satellite our own maps are also on the product pages alongside the
operators and the broadcasters can change the way that
