Welcome to a New Friend and a
Returning Rotarian I
March the 25th David Kilcoin became our new- est member. President Brian conducted the ceremony in his own inimitable style and David duly became „One of Us‟. Even the most serious of occasions have that injection of Havering and Upminster Rotary club humour and this was no exception. As Brian seriously advised the fellows to welcome our new mem-

ber with words of friendship and encouragement and went on to advise David to „make the most of the next few weeks‟, several members were then heard to say „Cos after that you‟re on your own!‟. After much laughter and applause things settled down as David gave his maiden speech. David, who was introduced by Secretary Geoff, had of course been attending club for a number of weeks prior to his induction so we all new him pretty well. He did however endear himself quickly to the club when he drew the raffle and announced that he had drawn his own ticket out. This of course once again brought the house down and he showed that he already picked up on our quirky sense of humour. The winner was in fact Alun Thomas, but we won‟t hold that against him.

n the 1st. April our Club business meet- ing included a very pleasant ceremony.
Our President Brian re.-inducted Chaman Sajjhanar back into The Rotary Club of Hornchurch and Upminster. After a break of a couple of years, the club members enthusiasti- cally welcomed back our old friend and we wish him many happy years of Rotary to come.
Havering South Rotary club back in 1977. When that club folded he became a member of the Dagenham Rotary Club but due to the difficulty of attending regularly, he was still working at that time, he resigned from that club. On his retirement Chaman became a member of our club. Unfortunately due to personal and health problems he had to give up his membership of our club. Since his open heart surgery last year and an upturn in his personal circumstances Chaman felt he was in much better shape to continue his Rotary career .With this in mind he successfully applied once again to become a member of the Hornchurch and Upminster Rotary Club and to use his own words he ''hopes to remain a member for the rest of his time!''
