Rotary International World Headquarters
In the month of June this year I happened to be in Chicago. I knew
that the RI World Headquarters were situated in Chicago as I had I looked it up in the Inter- net and found all the details. On 12 June I vis- ited this famous building, thanks to my nephew who very kindly drove me over there and took my photos as well.
As you can see the modern 18 storey building is in downtown Evanston, Chicago, and has been the Head Office since 1987. The building provides a 190-seat auditorium, a large parking garage and a 300- seat cafeteria as well as functional office space for 400 employees of the
World Headquarters. The executive suite on the 18th floor includes conference rooms for RI board and committee meetings, in addition to the offices the RI President, President-elect, and General Secretary.
As you all know the RI has a membership of over 2.1 million business, professional and community leader members in 32000 clubs situated in more than 200 counties.
My visit to RI Headquarters was a memorable one. On arrival at the building we were given a warm welcome and given a detailed guided tour of the building by a receptionist. She took us to every important room/office including that of the present RI President, President-elect and Secretary.
We were also taken to the famous office where all of Paul Harris' original
office items are preserved and placed in the same positions as they used to be in his own office more than 100 years ago.
I was very impressed, and was proud to be one of the
family members of this International Organization.
I learned a lot about how the headquarters controls the Rotary Clubs throughout the World. We signed the visitors‟ book and took some photos and left the building with great pride.
