Rotary Meeting 25-Feb-10 Murder Mystery Evening Who-did-it?
Murder at the Lodge! W W
ill our club meetings ever
be the same again? I mean, how often does the club secretary turn
out to be such a ROTTER? What a cad that Geoff Furzland was and in my opinion he got what he deserved.
ell of course that was all part of
on Thursday 25th. February. What a turn out we had with 139 Rotarians and guests packing out the venue. It was all a bit frantic to begin with, what with the parking problems and the seating plans that went slightly awry, but thankfully most of the problems were sorted out to most peoples satisfaction by Ray and Geoff with a little bit of help by one or two unknown Rotari-
the myth and mystery that the Wesley Players created at The Murder Mystery Night which was held at The Lodge
ans. Not many of us knew what to expect so, once everybody was seated; it became a most entertaining and interesting evening. The fact that our own Geoff Furzland was the central character to all the goings on made it all the more amusing.

hat a shame that David Goodhill was not there to see the outcome of his original
idea. The evening was intended to be our clubs contribution to the many fund raising activities that the Rotary organisation was creating for Purple Pinkie Week. All funds raised go towards our world-wide aim of eradicating Polio and to this extent the evening was a great success.

he net profit has been finalized at £695
hat a fabulous
outcome and thanks must go to those at the forefront of the organisation of the evening. Sylvia and Ray were two of that group who probably had most of the problems to sort out when David left the club and I offer my congratulations to them for pulling it off. Then there was Geoff who also had quite a lot to sort out. I probably -only saw the tip of the iceberg as he charged around the room on the night trying to sort out the tables. He had put out some name tags on the tables but some of these were removed (naughty, naughty) which did not help when groups of people arrived to find that there were not enough seats on any one table to accommodate their guests. Anyway, needless to say, in true Rotary fashion, these problems were sorted out and the evening went ahead to the satisfaction of most of those present. You know what they say, ‗you cannot please all of the people all of the time‘ and this was probably one of those times.
W
e must not lose sight of the reason for holding the evening and to that extent it
was a great success. If there is anything to be learned from the night, and there usually is, the evening was a little too long and if we were to plan another such evening there are some activities where we could save some time. These though are negative thoughts so I am going to finish by saying a big THANK YOU to all those club members who contributed in any way to the success of the evening. I hope you felt it was all worthwhile. Apart from my crumble, I had a great time.
