Club Members Snooker Competition W T
e do not have photos or news coverage of all our exciting sports events but the
writer can personally comment on the nail biting pressure of being a participant in two snooker games on 4-Feb-10 & 11-Mar-10 in the Romford Snooker Club on the old Romford Brewery grounds.
he first round match was between Geoff & George –v– Brian & Colin; I say nail biting
because the last two games out of three had to be fought out on the black ball. George played a spectacular game, potting balls that only Steve Davis could. On one occasion he nearly wet himself by potting a run of seven balls in succession, red-colour, red- colour, red-colour, red!( Well, he thought he was only going to pot the usual single ball and he was desperate to go to the gents) Not forsaking his partner secre- tary Geoff who demonstrated his miss-spent youth by thrashing away in the first game and allowing the dynamic duo to win the game by actually hitting the balls more times than the opposition (Brian & Colin)! I would like to add that at this point of the contest actually hitting the balls become a very important part of the game. However, it was eventually agreed on the way home that our President Brian and Colin were just warming up in the first game, when they hit many of the wrong balls, and agreed that they were just getting ready to show that hot shot George finally had met his match! Nerveless the 2nd and final round‘s become intense with sweat and panic, as each player tried their best to beat the other by actually hit- ting the right ball! President Brian eventually, recaptured his youth by playing in the way he said his father had taught him. He excelled him- self by potting the black ball in both the last two games, and securing the title of Champions for a day. Secretary Geoff kept us under control with strict, observant score taking and monitoring. No cheating allowed, (honest no
one tried- at least was not caught) It was diffi- cult but we kept very positive by not taking any notice of the two lads on the table next to us, who somehow managed to play six games in the same time that it took us to play three!

he next game took part on 11-Mar-10 with Ron & Ray -V- Brian & Colin and what a
superb game it was! Neck and neck all the way, both sides put everything into one game! It was only one game because of the time it took to play it! If we had played an- other game we would have needed a sleeping bag to stay over night!
here were many snookered shots having to give points
away! However, in reflection I would like to think many of the occasions were not just snookered shots at all! and that both sides professionally missed hitting the balls on purpose, which become evident by potting the white ball so many times, I think some of us got carried away and thought that they were playing Golf. Neverless, eventually, the match went all the way until there was just the Black & Pink left and that was where the champions ex- celled themselves and demoralized Brian & Colin by potting both to win the game. Ron & Ray go to the Finals which hopefully we shall hear about in the next edition of the BULL

fter reading this report you may think that we all played badly, however, you will be
surprised to know that we all thought that we had all played a very good game, I for one certainly think so, in both games we did eventually pot all the balls (perhaps not all in the right order) and reached scores of around 40 -50 per team, which I think in snooker are scores to be proud of!
