Our speaker today was the charming Seema
from Marie Curie Cancer Care Charity
S
ima recalled its foundation named after the polish born physicist a
pioneer in researching the field of radio activity.
T
he Marie Curie nurses care for
the patient in their home and now care for half of all patients who die at home. We learnt that the nurses
generally work at night often spending enough time to give respite for family carers. Indeed they aim also to support carers during emotional and stressful times.
T
he service is always free of charge and available on request for example
from the District Nurse or GP.
he charity
also runs some nine hospices across the UK and is actively involved in research.
