St. Francis Hospice Receives our cheque for £6,200.00 I


n the December issue of the Bull we


reported on the success of the annual sponsored walk and


stated that we had collected over £6,000. The final total was in fact £6,200 and a cheque for this amount was presented to Lynda Head, the Community Fund Raising Manager for the St. Fran- ces Hospice, by President Brian and DG John Banks, who had joined us on our walk with his wife Maureen.

aint Francis Hospice is a centre of excellence in the care of those with


life limiting illnesses. Their team of specialist consultants, doctors, nurses and health care assistants provide practical and emotional support for adults of all ages and give specialist bereavement support to family members from as young as 20 months.


ost people prefer to stay in their own homes and St. Francis Hospice provides


the type of support that allows them to do this. at times when this is not possible or when


patients prefer the comfort of being in a clinical environment, they bring them into their hospice for specialist care and


control of symptoms; over half of these patients are able to return home again. Their teams also provide care in the home and

inpatient care at the hospice day care centres, together with a full range of therapies and treatments.

his care extends beyond physical treatment of symptoms; they consider the emotional,


psychological, spiritual and social needs of their patients, their families, children and carers. they provide end of life care and support to more than 3,000 people each year.


E


very day Saint Francis Hospice care for more than 600 people with life


limiting illnesses and don‘t just look after people with cancer; their expertise ex- tends to other life limiting illnesses such as Motor Neurone Disease, heart disease and respiratory illness.
