OCR SHORTHAND & WORD PROCESSING DIPLOMA


Why study the OCR Shorthand & Word Processing Diploma? This flexible course is ideal for you:


• if you are going to university • if you want to be a journalist • if you want a general secretarial course combined with A-level/BTEC course


The National Council for the Training of Journalists will require you to study shorthand and magazine journalists need to take down notes at eighty words a minute, news journalists need to take notes at a hundred words a minute. If you are going to university you will need to:


• develop excellent note taking skills using shorthand


• develop excellent keyboarding skills for producing essays and your dissertation


If you wish to obtain general secretarial skills as well as taking A-level/BTEC courses you will gain all the relevant qualifications you need to ensure that you can obtain a highly paid career in the City of London or locally.


What do I study? Teeline shorthand theory and speed to minimum of eighty words a minute. OCR Text Processing Certificate/Diploma – Levels 2 and 3 which includes:


• text production • word processing • audio transcription • mail merge • business presentations (PowerPoint) • document presentations


Specialist Modules in Medical Word Processing and Medical Audio Transcription at Level 2 may be studied.


Where does the OCR Shorthand & Word Processing Diploma take me? If you intend to become a journalist you will be exempt from studying shorthand during your journalist training. You will be able to find highly paid temporary employment during vacation to help you fund your Higher Education course. If you are seeking employment, these qualifications together with your A-levels or BTEC will open the door to the best and most highly paid jobs in the workplace.


What do I need? GCSE English Grade C or above is essential.

Why study OCR Word Processing with Office Skills? This course is suitable for students wishing to gain a secretarial qualification alongside their A-level or BTEC programme.


What do I study? OCR Text Processing Certificate/Diploma – Levels 2 and 3 which includes:


• text production • word processing • audio transcription • mail merge • business presentations (PowerPoint) • document presentations


Specialist modules in Medical Word Processing and Medical Audio Transcription may also be studied.


Business Communications Communication is taught practically using office scenarios. You will learn how to write and respond to business letters, memos, job descriptions, reports, agendas, faxes, e-mails and instructions/guidance notes.


Where does OCR Word Processing with Office Skills take me? The qualifications gained on this course will enable you to seek secretarial employment. The transferable skills learnt on this course will aid your studies at college and university.
