AS/A2 LEVELS 3D DESIGN
Why study 3D Design? The 3D Design course offers learners the opportunity to develop an understanding of a broad range of materials, with an emphasis on identifying and testing design concepts through a combination of design practice, theory and making. The course is a mix of practical and theory based coursework, designed to test your knowledge and understanding of a range of specialist materials, techniques and processes, to support you in preparation for written exams and the development of suitable portfolio of 3D Design work.
AS/A2 LEVELS
AS (Advanced Subsidiary) and A (Advanced) level qualifications focus on traditional study skills. They normally take two years to complete.
You can choose from a wide range of academic subjects, as well as some ‘applied’ (work- related) subjects.
Many people use AS and A-levels to go on to Higher Education, but they’re also useful if you want to go straight into employment.
If you do not have a grade C in GCSE Maths or English, the College will expect you to re-sit these.
What do I study? Year 1 (AS) Year one introduces students to the 3D Design Studio and design practices. A series of themed design projects will introduce learners to a variety of materials and manufacture process. You are assessed through two units; a unit of coursework evidence related to a series of design and make projects, and an externally set assignment which culminates in an eight hour practical exam.
Unit 1: Art & Design Coursework Unit 2: Externally Set Assignment
Year 2 (A2) The start of the second year is focused on the production of a single sustained coursework project, a substantial, integrated design and make project where learners are focused on the realisation of a design solution through experimentation, prototype models, scale models through to a final marketable final product. You will also complete an externally set assignment which culminates in a twelve hour practical exam, based on a given theme provided by the exam board, allowing for greater autonomy through the development of an independent design proposal.
Unit 3: Art & Design Coursework Unit 4: Externally Set Assignment
Where does 3D Design take me? A course in 3D Design allows learners to progress on to Higher Education, Further Education courses and also offers a variety of employment options in related design industries. There is a variety of progression options which includes a range of courses
