LEVEL 2 BTEC DIPLOMAS MUSIC
Why study the Level 2 BTEC Diploma in Music? The BTEC Diploma in Music will give you the opportunity to develop your understanding of some aspects of the music/music technology industry. It is a highly practical, vocational course allowing you to develop your skills using industry standard equipment within sequencing, recording and composition. You will have the opportunity to develop your interests and skills in this popular and successful area of study.
What do I study? The qualification consists of three core units and four specialist units over one year. These will be assessed through assignments and course work, there are no formal examinations. The areas of study are as follows:
Core units: • working in the music industry • professional development in the music industry
• planning and creating a music product
Specialist units: • exploring musical composition • producing a musical recording • the development of music • investigating an area of music
Where does the Level 2 BTEC Diploma in Music take me? Learners who have completed the BTEC Diploma in Music will have a grounding in a range of musical skills and areas, which will act as solid background for progression to the BTEC Extended Diploma in Music Technology and the possibility to work in the music/music production industry.
What do I need? • an interest in all aspects of music, music technology and music production.
• the ability to work independently and with others.
• good organisational skills and the ability to work to task to meet deadlines.
APPLIED SCIENCE
Why study the Level 2 BTEC Diploma in Applied Science? If you have enjoyed Science at school but have not achieved the grades to progress onto a Level 3 course, then the Level 2 BTEC Diploma in Applied Science will be of interest to you. During the one year course, you will be undertaking practical work in all three sciences.
The course is entirely assessed by coursework, there are no exams, but this is not an easy option. You need to be motivated, organised and keen to find out ‘things’ for yourself.
What do I study? During the year you will study six units in total: • scientific principles (measurements, materials, animal cells, the periodic table and enzymes)
• science and the world of work (we look at an industry that involves science, e.g. electricity generation)
• physical science applications (energy, waves and astronomy)
• anatomy and physiology (the different organ systems of the body and how they work)
• plants and food (the role of plants and how they give humans and animals different types of food)
• forensic science applications (the science behind solving crimes)
Where does the Level 2 BTEC Diploma in Applied Science take me? After completing this course you could go onto the Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Applied Science. This is a two year course which is equivalent to two A-levels. Alternatively you may wish to go straight into science related employment.
What do I need? In addition to a keen interest in science, you will need to show high levels of motivation, commitment and initiative plus good organisational skills.
SPORT
Why study the Level 2 BTEC Diploma in Sport? This is a practical course which will give you the opportunity to complete assignments and activities based on realistic situations linked to working in the sports and leisure industry. It will give you a good feel for what it will be like to work in the industry as well as developing your skills. You will be assessed on assignment work and there are no formal exams.
What do I study? You will study two core units and five specialist units
The core units are: • fitness testing and training • practical sport
The core units give you an introduction to fitness testing and develop your knowledge of how to prepare practically and analyse sport.
The specialist units will be chosen from: • anatomy and physiology for sport • injury in sport • sports development • planning and leading sports activities • psychology for sports performance • nutrition for sports performance • development of personal fitness • work experience in the sports industry • exercise and fitness instruction • expedition experience
Where does the Level 2 BTEC Diploma in Sport take me? When you have completed the course, you can move onto a Level 3 course such as the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport or you can seek employment, for example in a leisure centre.
What do I need? An interest in the sport and leisure industry and in developing your own practical skills and the skills needed to work with people.
