range of creative and media projects. Students will be able to see projects through from the very first ideas to the final event and evaluation.


What do I study? You will work on a range of creative and media projects and you will have the opportunity to learn about lighting, sound, stage design, prop making, carpentry, stage management, marketing and events management. In addition you will have the opportunity to study a specialist area through an extended project and you will have a ten day work placement.


Where does the New Diploma in Creative & Media take me? The course is a recognised qualification for entry into Higher Education for further study in the creative and media area.


The course is highly practical and you will have the opportunity to contribute to a wide range of creative and media projects thus helping you to develop the skills that you will need for working within the industry. The course will concentrate on developing back stage/production skills where there is currently a skills deficit in the workforce.


Applicants may be asked to prepare an assignment to discuss at their interview in the spring prior to the start of the course


*Please note that if you study this course you will not always be able to catch the College bus in the evenings as you will need to be available after College for rehearsals and shows. On these occasions you will have to make your own arrangements for transport home.


SOCIETY, HEALTH & DEVELOPMENT


Why study the New Diploma in Society, Health & Development? This course provides a stimulating and diverse programme of applied learning within occupational contexts across the Children and Young People’s Workforce, Health, Community Justice and Social Care sectors. It introduces young people to the principles, practices and influences of these broad and varied sectors, including the impact on the lives of individuals and communities.


What do I study? The New Diploma consists of specific principal learning, additional or specialised learning (including an extended project), functional skills, personal, learning and thinking skills and context experience.


The core units include:


• the sectors in context • principles and values in practice • partnership working • communication and information sharing • personal and professional development in the work environment


• safeguarding and protecting individuals and society


In Additional and Specialist Learning, you will be able to:


• choose specialist pathways relating to the broad range of health, social care, community justice and children’s profession


• choose additional subjects or units from existing provision, for example: to pursue something of personal interest from accredited qualifications or take an A-level


Assessment The course consists of coursework and exams.


Work Placement There will be 20 days for work placement in at least two sectors. This will support you in making an informed choice about career progression.


Where does the New Diploma in Society, Health & Development take me? Learners will gain a wide range of skills and knowledge directly relevant to further study and employment. Successful completion will enable progression into:


• Higher Education opportunities in Children and Young People’s Workforce, Health, Community Justice and Social Care


• employment opportunities in Children and Young People’s Workforce, Health, Community Justice and Social Care


• further learning opportunities within employment such as training possibly in National Vocational Qualification (NVQ)


What do I need? A GCSE equivalent to 4 passes at grade C or above including English.


SPORT & ACTIVE LEISURE


Why study the New Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure? This is a course that involves you in a variety of theoretical and practically based work. Assessment is in the form of assignments. Your assignments involve realistic, workplace activities. It is for learners who seek to acquire knowledge and develop skills in relevant sport and leisure industries.


What do I study? The course consists of three parts:


Principal Learning is the largest part of the course and the content is unique to Sport and Active Leisure.


Generic Learning is common to all Diplomas and consists of Functional Skills in English, Maths and IT; Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) and Work Experience.


Additional/Specialist Learning consists of taking another qualification in addition to the Diploma e.g. a GCSE or AS level.


What subjects will I study? • the impact of an active and healthy lifestyle


• being an effective manager and leader in sport and active leisure


• science and technology in sport and active leisure industry


• applying science and technology to enhance performance in sport and active leisure


• globalisation and the sport and active leisure industry


• sport and active policy • promoting opportunities for all in sport and active leisure


• bringing the community together through sport and active leisure


Where does the New Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure take me? The course is equivalent to three A-levels and is a recognised entry qualification for Higher Education. It has particular value for courses in Sports Science, Physical Education, Sports Studies, Sports Therapy. The course is also recognised by employers and opportunities in the Health and Fitness industry, Sports Injury Clinics, Coaching and Sports Development would be available.


What do I need? To be successful in the course you require a keen interest in sport and science.
