HELPING YOU SUCCEED

Tutor Groups When you arrive at College we want to make sure that you get as much support as possible to ensure you are successful at Palmer’s College, so every student joins a Tutor Group (TG) made up of both first and second year students. They will come from various schools and will be studying a variety of subjects.

HELPING YOU SUCCEED AT PALMER’S COLLEGE

At Palmer’s College you will be encouraged to take a lot of responsibility for your own progress and achievement but, right from the start, you will receive the kind of guidance that will help you set realistic goals and achieve success.

Each Tutor Group has a student who is nominated as the TG Representative. With their help and that of your tutor, you will soon find your way around College and settle into student life. You’ll see your tutor regularly and once a week there is a group tutorial where you’ll explore important issues related to student life. Every TG is also allocated a Senior Pastoral Manager to give you extra support when needed.

Personal Tutor Your personal tutor will help you to decide on the best course to follow. They will also see you regularly on a one-to-one basis to make sure everything is going smoothly.

Your tutor can also ensure you receive additional support as and when you need it, such as careers advice, counselling, individual help with study and help with any other aspect of your life. Students say that they really value having a personal tutor, so we hope you make full use of yours during your time at Palmer’s College.

A Partnership with Parents We feel that your interests are best served if teaching staff, tutors and parents/guardians work together, but in a way that supports your independence as a young adult at Palmer’s College.

A number of consultation evenings are arranged - some to discuss your progress and others to provide information about careers, Higher Education or financial grants. You, as well as your parents/guardians, are encouraged to attend these events.

Work Experience Opportunities Whilst studying at Palmer’s College some students participate in work experience or volunteering opportunities as either part of the course or independently. Placements have included roles within solicitors, banks, nurseries, care homes, airports, hospitality and professional football clubs with the help of the Employer Engagement Manager.
