HELPING YOU SUCCEED

Some students choose to undertake an independent work placement which fits around their studies but is not a requirement of the course they have chosen. They complete a placement during evenings, weekends or College holiday periods because it is beneficial to their career aim to gain work experience in a particular field. Examples include students wishing to follow careers in journalism who undertook placements with local newspapers and a student wishing to become an architect who completed work experience with the planning department of a local authority. Other independent placements have included roles in a laboratory, pharmacy, vets and as a professional football coach.

Many students choose to use their spare time to volunteer their services in connection with a variety of projects including school, youth and community projects or fundraising activities. In addition to helping their local community these opportunities allow students to develop valuable and sought after skills.
