LEVEL 3 BTEC DIPLOMAS
BUSINESS
Why study the Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Business? There is potential for the qualification to prepare learners for employment and to provide skills and techniques required to progress into Higher Education in the appropriate vocational sector and it is suitable for those who have decided that they wish to enter a particular area of work. It is broadly equivalent to two A-levels. Students study the four core units and eight other units including; Financial Accounting, Business Law, Team Development and Business Ethics.
What do I study? Students will study a total of twelve units (four core units and eight specialist units). All units will be assessed through an assignment.
Core Units: • explore business activity • investigate business resources • introduction to marketing • effective people, communications and information
Specialist units may include: • introduction to accounting • marketing research • recruitment and selection • business ethics • human resource management • managing contracts and legislation • managing teams • managing a business project/event • setting up administration systems • managing information • e-business and internet marketing
EQUIVALENT TO 2 A-LEVELS (FORMELY BTEC NATIONAL CERTIFICATE)
Where does the Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Business take me? Students who have studied the BTEC Diploma in Business at Palmer's College have gone on to work for a number of well known organisations and many have also progressed to Higher Education at some of the top universities within the UK.
What do I need? If you are going to study a BTEC Diploma in Business, the assumption is that you will have some interest in the subject, be entrepreneurial in some way, maybe even considering building your own business or helping to build someone else's business. A BTEC Diploma in Business will give you the basic skills and knowledge you require in areas such as Finance, Law, Economics, Management and Marketing.
HEALTH & SOCIAL CARE
Why study the Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Health & Social Care? The BTEC Diploma in Health and Social Care is a specialist work-related programme of study to enable you to have knowledge, skills and understanding associated with this subject. It will introduce you to work related learning and provide a broad introduction of the vocational sector.
What do I study? There are eight core units plus specialist units.
The core units include: • developing effective communication in health and social care
• equality, diversity and rights in health and social care
• health, safety and security in health and social care
• development through the life stages • fundamentals of anatomy and physiology for health and social care
• personal and professional development in health and social care
• sociological perspectives for health and social care
• psychological perspectives for health and social care
Assessment The course consists of coursework only. Assignments are written to enable you to make maximum use of practical activities and work experience.

Work Placement You will have the opportunity to undergo work placement one day per week to enable a good understanding of the course and develop some of the skills used in the care setting. This will be in a range of health and social care settings
Where does the Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Health & Social Care take me? Successful completion offers different routes for progression. These include:
• some health and social care related courses at university
• direct entry into employment within the health and social care services for example, as a Clinical Support Nurse, Home Helps, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Physiotherapy Assistants etc.
• further learning opportunities within employment such as training possibly in National Vocational Qualification (NVQ).
What do I need? • a BTEC First qualification in Health and Social Care or early years
• GNVQ Intermediate Health and Social Care or any other related vocational area preferably a merit or distinction
• four GCSE passes at grade C or above
