Connect with Experts
In this edition of Connect with Experts, Justin Stronk, Business Development Specialist for Apple Technical Sales Support at PC Connection, Inc., discusses the benefits of mobile technology applications and how Apple® iPad® and other devices can help increase the efficiency and productivity of field service workers.
To ensure your customer is ready to mobilize their field service team, ask them about their mobile strategy and suggest a complimentary iPad consultation. During the consultation, we will review their current mobile environment, develop a use-case for Apple iPad, and help map out integration as well as deployment scenarios.

How Mobile Devices Empower Workers Q: ARE PEN AND PAPER A THING OF THE PAST?
A: The concept of pen and paper is outdated. To gain a competitive advantage today, you need information at your fingertips. With mobile devices, you can provide value back to your customers and

your internal systems to make data collection and usage a lot more efficient, clean, and available to everyone. So from that perspective it’s almost a necessity and definitely where the market is headed.
Q: HOW CAN FIELD SERVICE TEAMS BE MORE PRODUCTIVE AND EFFICIENT?
A: There’s a lot of information associated with field service. You’ve got someone alone in the field or with another team partner, depending on the business, and you need to install, repair, or modify a piece of equipment or perform a certain service. Accessing corporate information in your home or field office is really important. You need manuals. You need parts lists. You need to know who’s available, where your support is located, and who can you talk to. All of those things are necessary for an effective field service organization.
Q: WHAT ARE SOME BENEFITS MOBILE DEVICES OFFER YOUR CUSTOMERS?
A: From a dispatching point of view, our customers are able to quickly locate resources and offer location services more easily. Our customers are able to discover where their teams and resources are at any specific moment in time, and if there’s an emergency, they can react very quickly using a mobile solution.

A: Well, it provides a large comfort zone. Manuals are a necessary part of any good field service organization. Before there were mobile devices like Apple iPad, we had to carry a physical set of books. Going even further back, information was stored on microfiche. Now you can just access a PDF on your device, or download documentation from the cloud. All of that information is easily accessible to you now, so you can provide quicker service to your customer.
