AN INTELLIGENT FUTURE

I CAN’T BELIEVE ANOTHER ITM Conference is already over – a year of planning in the making, and it’s all over in two-and-a-half days. But what days they were! The agenda was jam-packed and, in keeping with the conference’s title, lots of ‘intelligent interaction’ was definitely the name of the game. It’s always great to see so

many people networking and catching up – one of the most enjoyable parts of any event. As delegates or businesses, and particularly in more challenging times, we are quick to discount the value that this can bring and, instead, perhaps direct all our focus to

Achievement Awards at the James Bond black tie gala-dinner evening – many congratulations to the worthy winners. Our delegates proved that technology continues to be a driving force for our future by experiencing some of the event through the new and interactive ITM conference app. Buyers gathered before the conference to discuss a number of topics in a confidential round-table environment – including travel management company (TMC) contracting, automating the booking process and how to go global. They left with much food

the job at hand in the office. Absorbing new information in a relaxed environment, while letting your hair down a little, is usually the best way to re-energise and motivate ourselves to carry on. The ITM conference agenda provided plenty of fresh information and take-away advice in varying formats, ranging from lively debates, to interactive sessions such as ITM’s The Price is Right and Gadget Show, to masterclass workshops and our In the Hot Seat series – where buyers and other experts were challenged on their specialist subjects. Justin Webb, anchor on BBC

Radio 4’s Today programme, took the moderator helm and demonstrated his journalistic prowess in challenging our industry leaders on the social and economic factors of business travel, and was our host for the ITM Buyer

for thought from Scott Gillespie’s closing session on Managed Travel 2.0 and the call for the end of managed travel as we know it. It is time to open our minds to exploring new frontiers. And that leads me neatly on to the future, as our planning starts for the next one. Make sure you save the date for next year’s ITM conference, entitled Intelligent Futures 2014, at Celtic Manor, May 12-14.
