German investment for Merlin
EUROPE
MERLIN Entertainments and retail developer CentrO have announced details of a €15m (US$18.9m) scheme to expand Germany’a biggest leisure destination, the CentrO Oberhause. Located in the Ruhr tourist centre of Oberhausen, The
CentrO Oberhause is already home to one of Merlin’s Sea Life centres and the latest plans will see the old CentrO Amusement Park replaced with Ocean Adventure Park. The diversified attractions operation has been managing the CentrO Amusement Park for the last year and the first phase of the redevelopment is already in progress and due to complete in spring 2013. Merlin also intends to develop
a new Legoland Discovery Centre (LDC) at the resort. One of the new attractions planned for the new Ocean Adventure Park will be the Antarctic Adventure Expedition Extreme, an experience for
the whole family that
will combine a ride, an aquarium and penguin encounters with an Antarctica theme. Merlin’s strategy of continuous investment in their theme parks means that there will be new attractions to

The LDCs, aimed at families with children aged between three and 10 years old, provide a range of attractions and play areas including a 4D cinema, a brick pool, Lego Master Model Builder brick building master classes, Lego rides and a Miniland exhibit reflecting local iconic buildings and structures.

Ribbon cut on new Simworx theatre
SIMWORX, the 4D effects theatre specialist, has completed the installation of a new Stargazer 4D motion theatre at Danfoss Universe in Denmark. Danfoss Universe was the dream of Danfoss President
Jorgen Mads Clausen and is a hands-on science theme park which opened in 2005 in Nordborg in the south of Denmark. Aimed at both children and adults, visitors can ‘play their
way to a knowledge of science,’ experiencing the world of science and technology and fun-filled natural phenomena within a host of different buildings and areas. The addition from Simworx has added yet more fun to
the offering. Situated in an existing building at the venue, the Stargazer 4D motion theatre features a total of 28 seats in four, seven-seater pods, each incorporating a six DOF dynamic hydraulic motion base. The film, Journey through the Body, is played through a
Panasonic digital circular polarising 3D projection system for excellent visual results, while the 4D effects include on- board wind and water spray along with bubbles, smoke machines, special effects lighting and 5.1 surround sound.
