moderate-length runs requiring frequent pattern changes, flexibility while maintaining quality and yield is key to our success,” said Fritz Hall, Benton president. In November 2008, Benton installed the DISA
Match 28/32 molding machine, which was based on the same matchplate technology as its two smaller molding machines. The 28/32 machine features a simplified, more rigid design using two main tie rods without the need for pins and bushings between the cope and drag. This enables production of high density molds and minimizes finishing costs by delivering less than 0.01-in. (0.25- mm) machine-related mismatch. “Te adjustable stripping height and acceleration protects mold integrity and optimizes cycle time,” Hall said. “Te adjustable cope and drag mold thickness helps us ensure a constant sand-to-metal ratio.” Since starting production in November 2008, Benton Foundry has achieved molding speeds of up to 103 un-
