Chinese Auto Parts Sales Expected to Reach 25 Million According to recent statistics from China’s Department of

Commerce, foreign investment controls the majority of the market share of auto parts and components. Sales of Chinese- made parts comprise 20-25% of the market. Almost 75% of the companies have a background in foreign investment, 55% are foreign companies, and 45% are joint ventures with foreign investors. Domestic-produced parts and components are mainly used in local brand automobiles with low market share. Te 12th

five-year development plan for the Chinese auto

industry, drafted by the China Association of Automobile Manufactures, predicts vehicle sales in 2015 will reach 25 million, 30% of the world’s production. Due to the lack of development capability and key tech-

nologies, local brand parts and components mainly depend on inexpensive resources and labor for expansion. Te report shows the price of many domestic cars is low compared to foreign automobiles, and domestic producers cannot compete on higher end products. Domestic producers also suffer from lagging technology and an unknown brand. It is expected that foreign brands will expand their products to the low-end mar- ket, which will erode the price advantages of local brands. ■
