3. Shipbuilding In 2010, China’s shipbuilding industry completed 65.6

million deadweight tons, received new orders of 75.23 deadweight tons, and held total orders of 195.9 million yuan, which represent 43%, 54% and 41% of the world market. All of these figures rank first in the world. Te 12th

five-year plan

proposes China promotes marine economy and foster the marine engineering equipment manufacturing industry. Te plan also emphasizes the shipbuilding industry should accel- erate its pacing to designing and building offshore mobile drilling platform. Te next five years is a critical period for China to transform and update its shipbuilding industry.

4. Agricultural Machinery During China’s 11th

five-year plan, the number of big- and

middle-sized tractors in rural areas increased from 1.4 mil- lion to 3.84 million, small-sized tractors increased from 15.4 million to 17.8 million, and combine harvesters increased from 477,000 to 970,000. Te price of raw industrial materials increased significantly, resulting in a price increase of big- and middle-sized tractors. Te third largest agricultural equipment vendor, AGCO Corp., launched China’s second largest high- power tractor manufacturing center in Daqing in Heilongji- ang province. On May 25, 2011, the largest agricultural equip- ment vendor in the world, John Deere, announced it would invest $60 million to build an engine plant in Tianjin, which is the seventh Deere project in China. In the near future, the competition in the domestic agricultural machinery market will no longer be among domestic enterprises for price, trade, and percentage.

5. Machine Tools Recently, the increased need for motor, high-speed rail-

way, ship, agricultural machinery, national defense, aviation and die equipment have forced rapid growth in the machine tool industry. Te growth rate of numerical control machine production in China was about 37.39% over the past five years. In 2010, the consumption of numerical control machines was more than $6 billion, indicating the machines have become the leader in the machine tool market. Accord- ing to a report, the output value of the domestic machine tool industry will be 80 billion yuan in 2015, and consumer spending will be nearly 85 billion yuan. Te number of CNC machines has exceeded 250,000, which is more than 70% of the domestic market share. Te output amount exceeded $11 billion, of which the machine tool market accounts for more than 40%. Te added value of the machine tool industry exceeded 30% in 2010. According to an analysis of the European Committee for the Cooperation of the Machine Tool Industries (CECIMO), the output number of machine tools of member countries may surpass 20 billion euro in 2011. Te output of machine tools by the CECIMO mem- ber countries comprises 33% of the global output, China represents 31%, and Japan is 18%.

6. Aircraft & Aerospace In the 12th
