Good news for sales figures then, which saw induction hobs rise a staggering 25.4% in volume and 23.4% in value, with unit prices falling slightly by 1.6% to £517 per unit, against £525 the previous year.

Mixed or domino hobs were also great sellers, up 14% in volume, 8.3% in value, as homeowners embraced new cuisines with teppan yakis and wok burners. Radiant electric hobs rose slightly by 0.3% volume but fell 1% in value; gas dropped 6.1% in volume but rose 3.4% in value – largely due to a 10.1% price increase to £186 per unit – but it was the halogen electric hob market that saw the most disappointing sales, with an 80.6% decline in volume and 69.8% drop in value.
Hoods
Extractors are still purchased as a design statement in the kitchen, with the latest models including angled glass hoods, curved canopy styles and boxy configurations with ambient lighting. Overall the hoods market was down 1.6% in volume but up 3.8% in value, with a price increase of 5.5% to £164 per unit. Canopy hoods were up 4.0% in volume, 5% in value while chimney hoods performed even better with a 6.1% increase in volume and 6.3% rise in value. It wasn’t all good news, however, as integrated hoods fell 15.2% in volume, 0.2% in value; standard hoods dropped 20.1% in volume, 15.1% in value and telescopic also dropped 5.7% in volume, 15.1% in value. ■
