Freeview HD offering HD programming without a monthly subscription, while Blu-ray player and disc prices have tumbled. Sales of standard definition models fell by 23.4% to just 3,266 pieces. Value was down 31.8% to £887,000 and average price was just £272, an 11% fall.

HD Ready sales were 5.59 million pieces, a fall of 24.1%. Value was £1.4bn, down 32.9%, while average price was £251, a fall of 11.5%. Sales of Full HD sets were up 54.4% to 3.96 million pieces, with value rising 26.9% to £2.25bn. Average price fell 17.9% to £568 or more than twice that for an HD Ready set. It’s fair to assume that, this time next year, the gap between sales of Full HD sets and HD Ready TVs will have narrowed considerably.


3DTV


If the marketing, hype and expectation behind 3DTV were translated into sales, then 3DTV would now be a significant part of the TV market. But 3DTV accounts for some 1.4% of the TV market by volume, with sales reaching 106,000 pieces, and value, £157.9 million. Average price is £1,489. Some manufacturers have launched 3D Ready TVs, enabling consumers to move to 3DTV via an upgrade kit. Sales of these products were 19,400, with value at £30.4 million and an
