Elks Drug Awareness Program
Tempe, AZ, Lodge members honored Jefferson Elementary School student Jasmine Dightmon and treated her and her family to breakfast at the lodge in recognition of her first-place finish in the national Drug Awareness Poster Contest. Lodge members presented Jasmine with a plaque and a $500 savings bond from the Elks National Drug Awareness Program, and the Mesa-Buckhorn Lodge, which sponsored Jasmine in the contest, gave her a $500 check and a framed reproduction of her winning poster. In other news, lodge members staffed a booth at the Tempe Volun- teer Expo and gave drug awareness literature to about 300 people who attended the event.
Atascadero, CA, Lodge members, accompanied by Elroy the Elk, distributed drug awareness coloring books and pamphlets to all 450 fourth- grade students in the Atascadero Unified School District.
Oceano/Five Cities, CA, Lodge donated $2,000 to Arroyo Grande High School’s Friday Night Live club to pay for the 11,000 anti-drug wristbands and more than 8,000 anti-drug pencils that the club distributed during Red Ribbon Week.
San Luis Obispo, CA, Lodge spon- sored a Friday Night Live event at California Polytechnic State Univer- sity, San Luis Obispo, which more than 2,000 young people attended. The event combined a drug- and alcohol- free party with an opportunity for young people committed to anti-abuse and anti-violence activities to network and share ideas.

u GREEN VALLEY, AZ, Lodge members honored the winners of their Drug Awareness Essay Contest in a ceremony at Sopori Elementary School. Sixth-grade students from the school submitted 20 essays to the contest, and the lodge awarded a gold medal and a drug awareness basketball to first-place winner Gerardo Lerma and a silver medal to second-place winner Cassandra Bojorquez.
