elected vice president for the East District in 1996–1997, was made president-elect in 1997–1998, was elected presi- dent in 1998–1999, was elected to a five-year term as Louisiana Elks Association trustee in 1999, served as the chairman of the trustees in 2003–2004, and was elected in 2010 to serve a one-year term as chairman of the Louisiana Elks Association trustees; and Whereas, He has served the Grand Lodge of the Benevo- lent and Protective Order of Elks as district deputy of the West District of Louisiana in 1999–2000 and served as chairman of the defunct Alexandria Lodge from 1999 to 2007 and is currently chairman of the defunct St. Mary Parish Lodge and the defunct Natchitoches Lodge since 2003; and Whereas, He was appointed special deputy for Louisiana in 2003 and currently holds that position; and Whereas, He has accomplished all of the foregoing with the help, love, and support of his wife of forty-nine years, Sue, daughter, Suzanne, son-in-law, Tony, who is an Elk, granddaughter, Alexa, and grandson, Philip; now therefore Be it resolved, That the officers and members of Baton

Greenville, Mississippi, Lodge Presents Michael K. Gordon Sr. for Grand Inner Guard Whereas, The officers and members of Greenville, Mississippi, Lodge No. 148, chartered in 1890, do recognize and appreciate the accomplishments, dedi- cated service, and leadership rendered by Michael K. Gordon Sr. to his lodge, the Mississippi State Elks Association,


and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks; and Whereas, He has been a member of our fraternal Order for over twenty-two years, having been initiated in Septem- ber of 1989; and Whereas, He was immediately elected as the lodge’s esteemed lecturing knight, then was elected exalted ruler


for the lodge for the following three years; and Whereas, He helped implement several new programs for fund-raising activities, which included a golf tournament, Rib Cooking Night, and a Thanksgiving Eve Dance, and has also served as the Drug Awareness Committee chairman for his lodge, leading one of the best drug awareness programs in the state; and Whereas, He served his lodge as trustee from 1994 to 2009, serving as chairman several times; and Whereas, He served from 1996 to 1997 as second vice president for the North District of the Mississippi State Elks Association and from 1997 to 1998 as first vice presi- dent for the North District and from 1998 to 1999 as state president; and Whereas, He served and is still serving the state associa- tion as chairman of the Government Relations Committee, chairman of the Elks National Foundation Committee, and helped lead the state of Mississippi to rank fourth in the nation in per capita giving for the last two years as chair- man of the state Elks National Foundation Committee, and served as cochairman of the Mississippi State Elks Association’s state major project, Mississippi Elks Camp, and in 2007 received the Charlie Duffie Award, given annu- ally to the Mississippi Elk who exemplifies excellence in Elkdom on a state level; and Whereas, He served from 1995 to 1997 for two consecu-


tive years as district deputy for the North District; and Whereas, He was appointed to the Grand Lodge Ameri- canism Committee in 2002, serving for five years, the last two as chairman, and while on that committee, represented the Grand Lodge by sitting on the board of directors of Citizens Flag Alliance; and Whereas, He has been married to his wife and fellow Elk, Bonnie, for forty-seven years and has two children, Michael and Michelle (who is also an Elk), and a daughter-in-law, Belinda, and two grandchildren, Michael and Meg; now therefore


Be it resolved, That the officers and members of Greenville, Mississippi, Lodge No. 148 are honored and privileged to present to the 2011 Grand Lodge Convention in Phoenix, Arizona, the name of Michael K. Gordon Sr. as a candidate for the office of Grand Inner Guard of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America.
