Winchester, VA, Lodge members honored US Marine LCpl Mark Sackett during a ceremony at the lodge and treated him and his family to dinner. Lance Corporal Sackett was on leave from a period of treatment at the Bethesda Naval Medical Center. Pictured with Lance Corporal Sackett are his parents, Kelly Miller and Donald Sackett.


Bristol County, RI, Lodge held a Crock Pot Challenge fund-raiser, which featured 27 entries, and raised more than $2,500 for the Elks Na- tional Foundation.


In other news, the lodge put $3,000 donated by a local foundation toward its East Bay Cares Program, which provides food aid to needy families by distributing holiday food baskets, supplementing school lunch programs, and providing assistance to local food pantries and soup kitchens.


Johnson City, TN, Lodge donated 100 items of bedding to the Haven of Mercy, which operates a homeless shelter and a transitional facility for homeless people. The lodge also donated a pickup truck full of goods to the Haven of Mercy thrift shop.


Beaumont, TX, Lodge donated $745 to Hamshire-Fannett Intermediate School student Fred Pfeister to help him attend the Lone Star Leadership Academy, a leadership training program for students in the fourth through eighth grades.


Two Rivers, WI, Lodge members honored Jacque Dickenshied as their Citizen of the Year during a community fund-raising concert and gave her a plaque in honor of her lifetime of service to the community. The lodge also helped sponsor the concert, which raised more than $4,000 for Two Rivers Unique Senior Transportation, an organization that provides transportation to senior citizens. In other news, the lodge donated $200 to the Two Rivers High School band to help pay for new uniforms.


Florence, OR, Lodge held its annual Children’s Christmas Party for more than 200 children, including children from the community and relatives of lodge members. Partygoers were treated to snacks, dance performances by a lodge dance troupe and the Sweet Creek Youth Ballet, a piñata game, and a visit with Santa, who gave each child a candy cane.


In other news, the lodge hosted a Community Appreciation Christmas Dinner and treated 425 people from the community to a full Christmas dinner at the lodge. Lodge members also gave gift baskets to several lucky attendees who held winning tickets.

Forest Grove, OR, and Hillsboro, OR, Lodges donated $380 and 200 pounds of goods to high school student Alea Martinez, who was gathering supplies to send to members of the Oregon Army National Guard 3-116 Armored Regiment who were serving in Iraq.


Hillsboro, OR, Lodge members delivered holiday food baskets to 850 needy families. The baskets contained a total of about 80,000 cans of nonper- ishable food.


Lock Haven, PA, Lodge members raised $125 for lodge charities by selling paper snowflakes.


Denison, TX, Lodge held a Valentine Dinner fund-raiser in support of the state major project, Texas Elks Children’s Services. Nearly 30 people attended the dinner, which featured live musical entertainment.


Onancock, VA, Lodge donated a $10,000 ENF Impact Grant and $5,000 in lodge funds to a local food bank and distributed food baskets to 38 needy families at Christmastime. In other news, lodge members awarded $7,000 in scholarships to graduating high school students. In more news, the lodge donated


$1,650 to local charities, including $500 to the Anglers Club, to help support a Kids’ Fishing Day; $500 to a nursing home, to help buy gifts for patients without families; $400 to a 4- H club; and $250 to a fire department, which was raised at a Dance fund- raiser. The lodge also donated about 200 pounds of aluminum pull tabs to a local hospital. The hospital will sell the pull tabs for scrap to help pay for treatment for kidney patients. ■
