American territories were invited to come to Bedford to live at the Elks Home. My brother and I left Puerto Rico, were met by Elks in Miami, and sent by bus to Bedford. We lived in the Home from 1942 to 1944 and attended high school nearby.” Following the war, Besosa stayed in the United States, joined the US Army, earned a college degree, and was married in 1951. “We moved here eleven years ago,” Besosa says. “My wife’s buried here. With more than two hundred acres of land, a seven-hole golf course, and a fishing pond, the Elks National Home is a beautiful place to retire.
