Sussman says: “They offer fantastic technology, but I think a guitar game with a plastic controller is more fun than an air guitar game with no controller. That said, we’re very interested in what possibilities are offered by the camera. “We have a very strong group of creative minds that are committed to bringing new music game experiences to people. I’m confident we’ll be able to think of something.” In the meantime, Rock Bandwill continue to go head-to-head with Guitar Hero.
“I think the brand identities
between Guitar Heroand Rock Band are more differential now than they may have been in the past,” says Chan. “So I’m curious to see where they go next.” Sussman adds: “It’s interesting to compete against a franchise that I helped to create,” says Sussman. “We welcome the competition.”

Harmonix wants to improve its standing in the UK and Europe with Rock Band 3. The fact that it arrives on our shores just three days after the US game is testament to this. The developer is also providing localised community websites. On top of this, the Rock Band 3is supported with localised DLC songs targeting the French market, Swiss market and more. In fact, the number of UK artists in Rock Band
3is greater than it is any other Rock Bandtitle.
“One of the things we’ve not done that well in the European market with Rock Band games was their US-centric track lists, and in a way that alienated the European gamer,” says project director Daniel Sussman. “With Rock Band 3we made sure we were being European- friendly with the approach to song selection and basic design.”
