PARKLIFE Of course a variety of attractions have opened at the park

during this time, including several major additions. In 1999, for example, the first wooden roller coaster in Germany, Bandit, was introduced, built by the Roller Coaster Corporation of America, while in 2001 the MP Express roller coaster, from Vekoma, was added. In 2002, the High Fall Free-Fall tower from Swiss company

Intamin made its debut, while in 2005, one of the park’s original attractions, the 200-seat 4D cinema, was given a revamp with new seats and projectors and the introduction of a new film based on SpongeBob Square Pants and which today offers the Shrek 4D movie The Story Continues (since 2008). During 2007/2008, a completely new themed area,

Nickland, was introduced with 16 family attractions including a suspended coaster from Vekoma, Jimmy Neutron’s Atomic Flyer, and the SpongeBob Splash Bash, a Splash Battle from Preston & Barbieri/3DBA. Indeed, the area is one of the most successful elements of the park,

studies showing that for many visitors it is one of the main reasons for their visit. Of the attractions on offer, the Mystery River rapids

ride, the Bandit coaster and the Shrek 4D cinema are the most popular, while live shows are also a key element of the park (Shrek is one of the park’s characters in a joint venture co-operation with Universal/Dreamworks). The Crazy Action Stunt Show, a daily show which seats 3,000, and the Halloween Horror Fest, already a traditional Movie Park Germany event, are the most popular live events. Indeed, the latter is held every Thursday, Friday and Saturday in October when the otherwise friendly family park is transformed into Horrorwood Studios. The occasion has attracted more than 25,000 guests on a single day. “As Movie Park Germany we want to offer our guests a

great ‘on stage’ experience in the world of movies, media and entertainment,” explains public relations manager Antje Kurz-Möller, “including shared emotions, spectacular stunts, live entertainment, musical and animation shows, breathtaking attractions and high-speed roller-coasters and water rides. Our claim is “Wow, I’m in the movies” and that is what the experience of every guest should be.” For 2010, there will be three new shows - a western dance

show called “Wild West Showdown,” a musical dance show called “Movie Switch” and “X-Men,” featuring Wolverine, Magneto, Storm, Cyclops and other X-Men characters in a new live show featuring Hollywood-style special effects and stunt performances.
