Dotto
Dotto’s first train was produced in 1962 by company founder Ivo Dotto and today the company offers an extensive range of road trains, along with two electrically driven track models.
Dotto products are to be found around the world in a variety of locations including historic towns, tourists destinations, seaside resorts and, of course, amusement and theme parks. Its strongest markets are the towns and tourist areas, with two thirds of its production being sold to such places, while the company’s strongest market area is Europe, with Italy itself being an important market.
One of the latest models to be introduced is the “green” train, while Dotto is also now revising its modern train model, the City Roamer. With emission controls being revised on an annual basis, this aspect of all vehicles is regularly considered and revised.
“Even when the bodies of the trains don’t change” explained general manager Sabrina Carraro, “a lot of work on the technical side is done. Every two years, from a technical point of view, the trains are very different as a result of new regulations or because we find new technical elements which allow us to improve things.”
Much attention is paid to providing a high quality product with good reliability and the “Made in Italy” tag, while a continuous dialogue with clients helps with product development. Indeed, some clients continue to operate trains that are more than 30 years old. Customer care is also key to Dotto’s success, including a comprehensive spare parts service which reaches around the world.
Products
New technology is introduced on a regular basis, along with custom applications, new options, etc. A new locomotive is currently being developed with a new design (although further details are not yet available), while other current projects include various custom applications based on customer requirements such as:
a) Enclosed coaches for a safari park with stainless steel protection grills.
b) TM970 City Roamer equipped with air conditioning system in the coaches.
c) Special coaches with modified seating positions and coach entrances.
d) Special internal ceiling in white polycarbonate for coaches.
New engines for various Dotto locomotives are also being introduced, all of which are installed on chassis built at the Dotto factory that are tested and approved by the engine suppliers. Additionally, for the Electric Muson River model, Dotto is introducing Lithium battery powered engine units.
The company also achieved UNI EN ISO Certification in 2006 which is renewed every year.
