SBF/Visa Group Projects

Among the most recent projects to be completed by SBF/Visa have been a tower ride at Flambards in Cornwall, UK, which opened on March 30. Named Skyraker 001 at the park, the 28m tower is the first of its kind in the UK and features a 16-seat, rotating gondola which is taken three quarters of the way up the tower from where it begins to rotate, either clockwise or anti-clockwise. The attraction incorporates several ride programmes and at Flambards is being operated as both an exciting drop tower ride as well as a more sedate observation tower, a programme requested by the park.

The history of Italian company SBF goes back over half a century to 1952, when Italo Frison founded the business in a small workshop when he made his first bumper car by hand. This was followed by kiddie ride vehicles and small ride pavillions and since then SBF s.r.l. has grown to become one of Europe’s largest amusement ride manufacturers.

Now known as the SBF-Visa Group, the company is an innovator, creator and manufacturer of a comprehensive range of amusement ride products, including family rides, thrill rides, children’s rides, standard rides and custom attractions, all designed, engineered and built in-house at the family owned and operated facilities .

The majority of the company’s rides can be built as both park or trailer mounted models and customers wanting a single ride right up to a complete park or entertainment centre can be catered for with SBF-Visa’s diverse range. All rides and their components are manufactured to the highests international standards, including but not limited to DIN, TUV, ASTM, in order to ensure quality, safe, reliable rides, while, not surprisingly, much importance is also placed on an excellent after-sales service.

Products

SBF/Visa’s product range is extensive and covers the following categories:

• Children’s rides • Family rides • Thrill rides

• Ferris Wheels/Giant Wheels • Roller coasters • Water rides • Road trains • Tower rides

According to the park’s Paul Morris, the new ride is, in fact, purpose built, as in addition to the observation mode in the programme settings, Flambards is also restricted in the height of its attractions, so a smaller version of the ride was designed by SBF-Visa. The original ride also features 12 seats, but Flambards wanted 16, so a new gondola was also designed, in a hexagonal shape, to accommodate the extra seats, as opposed to a round or square gondola. An access platform at the top of the ride was also incorporated on the park’s request, along with a service ladder, while another new feature is a rotating dome at the very top of the tower, featuring the park name.

“We are a family park and the new ride is perfect for the family market and all ages,” Morris noted.

Additionally, the group has delivered another tower ride, sponsored by Vodafone, to the Rocking Rio company, an organisation that organises events worldwide and is planning initially to operate the attraction during a festival in Lisbon followed by another event in Madrid and various subsequent events in the future.

The company has also recently installed two new rides in Spain. One is a customised Pirate Ship at the Isla Magica park in Seville and the other is a traditional Merry-Go- Round with an 11.5m diameter, purchased by the Municipality of Torremolinos and installed in the local park La Bateria in Andalusia.
