Zierer
The German company Zierer is a well-known and respected name within the amusement industry and has been building rides and attractions since 1930. Its current range caters for all ages and all requirements, from family groups to thrill seekers, with popular rides such as the Waveswinger, Flying Carpet, Kontiki, Family Freefall Tower, Flying Fish, Jet Skis, the Force Coaster and the Tower Launch Coaster.
Projects
Among the company’s most recent projects has been that at the Plopsa Indoor park in Coevorden, The Netherlands, which opened at the end of April. This is the fourth park overall and second indoor park by Belgium based Studio 100, as well as their first park venture outside Belgium. The company’s other parks are Plopsaland De Panne, Plopsa Indoor in Hasselt and Plopsa Coo. At Coevorden, Zierer opened the same rides as in the indoor park in Hasselt, these being a Force Two Roller Coaster, a Family Freefall Tower and a Kontiki Swing Boat attraction.
Also recently completed is the new Sesame section in Busch Gardens Tampa, Florida, where Zierer supplied a custom designed Force Coaster, similar to the one installed at Busch Gardens Williamsburg the year before.
And just opened (in Mid-May) is Zierer’s first Elevated Seating Coaster (ESC) in Europe, at Schwabenpark near Stuttgart, Germany. The first ESC opened in Bowcraft Park in the USA and this newest one is the second of its kind, although quite a bit larger than the first. The ride features 535m of track, a lift height of 22m and a maximum speed of 65kph. The novelty comes from the open seats that are placed high up on the car (hence the name “Elevated Seating Coaster”).
Additionally, for the recently announced 2011 expansion of Paultons Park in the UK - a specially themed Peppa Pig area - Zierer will be supplying two rides, one of these being a first for the company. Due to the confidential nature of the project, further details are not yet available, but according to Zierer “it will definitely take IP-themed traditional attractions to the next level!”
