UK’s first Legoland

Discovery Centre debuts in

Manchester THE UK’s first LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre opened its doors in

Manchester on March 22, 2010, granting guests a passport to a world of colour, creativity and fun. The unique indoor attraction, which opened at the giant Trafford Centre shopping mall,

has been designed for children aged three to 12 years old. Featuring over 2 million Lego bricks, LDC Manchester includes numerous interactive features to immerse children into a world where their imagination can run wild with creative inspiration through a range of attractions - from the Lego City Fire Academy to an impressive recreation of the North West’s most iconic buildings. On entering the LDC, children are taken on a Lego factory tour, which reveals the

secrets of how the famous toy bricks are made. Some components of the machinery are missing and require the help of the children to create new Lego bricks. MiniLand, meanwhile, includes all of the iconic landmarks from the north of England,

including the Trafford Centre, Blackpool Illuminations, the Peak District and the world famous Coronation Street cobbles. Visitors are encouraged to make their own versions of MiniLand, which can even be tested on an earthquake machine to see how their structure would stand up to an earthquake if one was to suddenly strike in Manchester. Kingdom Quest, an interactive Lego laser ride, offers the chance for kids to battle with

trolls and skeletons, or they can feel part of the story in Lego Studios - the 4D cinema where the wind rushes around their feet and Lego bricks fly around towards their heads. The Master Model Builder, interviewed for the job by children from Manchester, is on

hand to teach all visitors top tips on to how to build the best Lego models. Celebrations can also be made even more memorable in one of the special party rooms, which can be personally themed to create the ultimate children’s birthday party celebration. Other features of LDC Manchester include a Lego Racers build and test track and

the Lego Belville area - a Duplo Village featuring a soft play section, a café and a shop stocked with a full range of Lego products. Neil Crittenden, general manager of the venue, said: “The Manchester LEGOLAND®

Discovery Centre is the first in the UK, so we have teamed up with a location that could support this attraction. The Trafford Centre offers the perfect combination of leisure, dining and shopping in a one-stop experience, ideal for families. “With a footfall already of 35 million, it would take something very special to increase

this, but we are sure our fun, interactive attractions will offer yet another reason for more families to visit the Trafford Centre, providing fun for Lego fans young and old and being the place to visit in 2010.”
