A WESTON SUPER MARE VIEW W
By Michael Ripley, Stephen & Co
hen is the best time to be beside the seaside? Many would say not in December or in the Winter period, however, Weston super Mare is currently bucking the trend with Icescape in the former Tropicana providing a major Winter attraction with skating, including a slide. This is enhanced by the opening of Dolphin Square, now partly re-built, and although only in the first stage of trading, Nando’s, Pizza Express, Costa Coffee and Luda are already open, with multi-screen cinema due to open early in the New Year. This has added to the attractions and with the completely re-vamped Winter Gardens, forming part of Weston
College, and the adjacent former Italian
Gardens, which have been totally re-

things are certainly looking up. Regrettably, there has not been a similar improvement in the retail market, although it is early days, as far as the benefits of these recent developments are concerned, to have a significant impact on the High Street. Unfortunately, Brexit and internet shopping does not help.
...Weston super Mare is currently bucking the trend with Icescape in the former Tropicana providing a major Winter attraction with skating, including a slide.
Residential expansion is significant in the surrounding area and this is leading to a much improved market for industrial and warehouse premises, where the take up of space moves forward with significant
movement on the Weston Industrial Estate, Winterstoke Road and other industrial estates, leading to a reduction in the amount of available space and the inevitable improvement in both rents and freehold values. This will, I am sure, in due course encourage further development, which will compliment the existing developments where new space has been created, mainly for owner/occupation and often on pre-let or pre-sale basis on the airport with further development due to take place adjacent to Junction 21 of the M5 Motorway. This Junction is also scheduled to be upgraded again. There is therefore every reason to be optimistic for the future of Weston super Mare, from the commercial point of view, which can only benefit from the development of Hinckley Point C, which is now going forward leading to reduced availability of space in the Bridgwater area and no doubt a move for companies to seek premises a little further afield with Weston super Mare fitting the bill.
2018 therefore looks to be a promising
year, although the Brexit question must still be resolved.
