round clearance works have started on a major extension at the Hyperion House nursing home at Fairford in
Gloucestershire. The key contract win marks the latest stage in West builder
Helm Construction’s expansion plans along the M4 and M5 axis. The Bristol-based builders have been called in to tackle an ambitious re-development at the Gloucestershire nursing, dementia and residential care home on behalf of clients Diva Care. The 12-month long project includes the partial demolition of an existing structure and replacement with a 31-room extension which will double the home’s present capacity. Helm Construction Contracts Director Jon Ticehurst said:
“We have enjoyed a steep rise in fortunes culminating in a 40 per cent increase in turnover on last year and a 100 per cent increase on 2013 – and are now looking at some modest strategic acquisitions in order to move to the next level. “We challenged ourselves to expand along the M4 in both directions and the M5 to the north and south, so we are particularly pleased to have been selected for this key development at Hyperion House.” Helm Construction began as a small village business but has
grown to be among the top 5 per cent of construction firms in the South West tackling medium to large size building projects for both residential and commercial property developers. Jon Ticehurst added: “We were pleased to have been
selected to take this prestige development forward in an attractive village location in the Cotswolds.” For further information contact Helm

SURPLUS NHS SITES D
evelopers and owner occupiers are being sought for former NHS properties in and around Gloucester which have been declared surplus to requirements. Property consultants Bruton Knowles beat off stiff
competition to land the key instruction from the 2gether NHS Foundation Trust. Dorian Wragg from the firm’s Gloucester office said the properties comprise bare sites and a range of existing buildings offering conversion or re-development potential. He said: “These buildings are well known in Gloucester, are predominantly in residential or commercial areas and so offer a range of potential uses.” The sites are at 18 Denmark Road, 44 London Road, Fieldview and Coleford House in Boxbush Road, Coleford.
CHELTENHAM BID
n August 2016, Cheltenham became the first town in Gloucestershire to have a Business Improvement District (BID). The BID’s activities are having a positive impact on the town. Knight Frank’s recent Top 200 Retail Ranking named Cheltenham as one of two Premiership Centres. Ranked ninth out of 200, the report said that: “’Affluent market towns’ such as Guildford, Chichester, Winchester and Cheltenham generally have strong fundamentals that transcend wealth alone.” Kevan Blackadder, Director of Cheltenham BID, said “It’s great to know that Cheltenham is seen as being in such a strong position to benefit from future retail investment. “The Knight Frank ranking is on the back of detailed analysis of
six key areas – catchment, expenditure, retail/leisure supply, the occupational and investment markets and the competition. As such, for Cheltenham to stand as high as ninth in this survey is a great endorsement of our future.”
Cheltenham has a diverse mix of retail and leisure establishments appealing to a wide demographic. This appeal sees independent businesses flourishing alongside high-profile nationals.
The Knight Frank report states that ‘occupier demand is far more selective – the right sites in the right towns at the right rent and no compromises.’ Some high-profile nationals have recently chosen Cheltenham as a place to expand, based on those principles: Pret a Manger chose Cheltenham to open their first outlet outside London. The Ivy took over an iconic Regency building and opened in November. Along with the recently opened Oliver Bonas and soon to be open John Lewis, there has been an increased interest in commercial property in Cheltenham. With excellent transport links from major airports and easily accessible from the M5, Cheltenham is the centre for the Cotswolds and is becoming more and more attractive as a place from which to run a business.
