That’s FAST! Three years in – see what Lee achieved with his FASTSIGNS franchise

ranchisee of FASTSIGNS St Albans, Lee Simpson opened his centre in September 2020 – amidst
the pandemic. Lee decided that the country’s ‘hibernation’ was the perfect time for him to learn about his new signage business and be prepared for when things started up again. It turns out, this tactic paid dividends. Lee didn’t get the incremental start he
planned. Due to the nature of FASTSIGNS' service and the breadth of the signage solutions available, Lee’s business was in demand. “For the first six months, we provided floor graphics, safety signage and Perspex shields,” comments Lee. “When the business world started operating more normally in early to mid- 2021 we were ready to start taking on bigger projects.” One such project was for a contract-
building company that wanted to create a professional and united brand identity when working at different locations. Lee applied their logo to all manner of building equipment to help them achieve their goal.

Since then, Lee hasn’t looked back.
Continuing with his optimistic outlook, his attitude is to say ‘yes’ to as many customer projects as possible and then lean on his franchisor, dedicated business consultant, mentor franchise and the FASTSIGNS network – both in the UK and in the global community – to help him deliver.

With this approach, Lee has grown
in confidence over the past three years. In 2022, Lee worked with Affinity Water, fully rebranding 20 sites across Hertfordshire and Essex. Completing site surveys, comprehensive individual site plans, production and installation management, and providing site-specific
billing, making this his largest project to date. “Working on such a large-scale project was exciting,” Lee states. “Project managing so many sites, providing a comprehensive service and seeing it all installed was a hugely proud moment.” At the FASTSIGNS UK Convention
2023, held annually, Lee was recognised for his centre’s growth, within the network. Between October 2022 and 2023, Lee’s centre turnover grew by a stratospheric 87%. How did he do it? “I followed the model. I pushed myself out of my comfort zone when I needed to and made use of the resources available to me. I do the marketing and attend the networking events. I do everything I can to raise awareness of my business. If I’m busy working on the business or in it, it doesn’t matter, I’m working for the betterment of the business.” Over the three years of trading, Lee
has expanded his team. “I recognise that I can’t do it all myself. I enjoy the management side of the business. I have a dedicated team of sales, marketing and production professionals who help make the dream work.” To help optimise his investment in staffing, Lee has invested in skills at a grassroots level, employing an apprentice signmaker with a great work ethic and Lee has developed their skills to suit the business requirements. As a cherry on top, at the 2023
convention, Lee was also recognised as the Franchisee of the Year. To have achieved this accolade so early in his FASTSIGNS career, just shows that with a ‘can-do’ attitude, the FASTSIGNS business model can help you achieve great things.
