Overcoming obstacles W

elcome to the Spring edition of Business Franchise Magazine! This issue contains your

show guide to The British & International Franchise Exhibition (see page 33) taking place at Olympia London over 2 & 3 February and could kick-start the realisation of your business-ownership ambitions! If you’re still unsure about your next

step take a deep breath and ask yourself: Is something holding you back? Well, if so, you’re not the only one… factors that potential business owners quoted as the predominant obstacles* the faced were: (1.) Being unsure just how, and where, to start; (2.) Feeling ill-equipped because you’re not an 'expert'; (3.) Never being able to get start-up funding and (4.) Not being

able to attract customers. And all of these are very understandable reasons to be feel apprehensive… but, equally, I reckon each of the objections mentioned above can be dismantled when you apply the strengths of the franchise model! So, for instance: With regards to the first

point 'not knowing where to start' – events such as The Franchise Exhibitions are your ideal starting point! As for the second: while yes, you may not be an expert, right here you’ll meet the people who are, plus you really don’t need to be one to run a franchise, since many franchisors are looking for passion and determination in prospective franchisees over and above having any previous experience. You’ll receive initial and ongoing training and support from the start, and throughout your franchise ownership.

As for reasons 3 and 4 – again, this

is where having the expertise of an established, tried-and-tested brand comes in. Banks, and other lenders, are well acquainted with the franchise model and its success (statistically, franchises have much greater success rates than independent start ups), and so therefore look favourably upon business plans and loan applications from entreprenuers taking the franchise route! Plus, with a franchise, you are running

a business that has already established its systems and processes as well as built a name and reputation – which puts you in front of the competition when it comes to attracting customers. So, ask yourself again – what’s really getting in your way? Not much, I reckon! Good luck!
