John Preston Franchisee Trailblazer

In 2019 John Preston embarked on his franchise venture with ambitious aspirations, unaware of the success that lay ahead.

John quickly became the Mathnasium network’s top performer, but his influence went beyond personal success. He played a vital role in reshaping the Mathnasium franchise model, inspiring 40% of the UK Mathnasium network to emulate his success by opening multiple centres and boosting the brand’s overall performance. Mathnasium Franchisor of the Year

Since its acquisition by the new Master Franchisee, John Preston, in March 2020, Mathnasium has undergone an evolution, becoming a robust powerhouse of technology, resources, skills, and ambition.

“I stepped into the role of franchisor with a clear vision of the necessary changes.

We’ve listened to the network, taken decisive action, and made tough decisions to unlock the full potential of the brand. Two years on, our franchise stands among the best,” says John.

Utilising Mathnasium’s proprietary business management system, Radius1, the franchise gathers and analyses data to enhance the network’s overall performance. These successful strategies, tested in company-owned centres, are adopted by all franchisees, fostering a growth- oriented mindset. Mathnasium places equal importance on franchisee profitability and expansion, with more than 40% of the network now operating multiple units.

Mathnasium places a strong emphasis on providing comprehensive training to empower its franchisees. This well-rounded training covers

essential areas like premises acquisition, lease negotiation, and a wide range of teaching methods, equipping franchisees for success. In addition to a dedicated UK support team, Mathnasium offers access to the substantial 103-member US support team, further enhancing their support structure.

A notable addition in 2022, the ‘School Pick-Up’ initiative extends the reach of Mathnasium’s services. This innovative scheme involves trained staff members picking students up directly from school and safely escorting them to Mathnasium centres.

In tune with modern consumer expectations, Mathnasium utilises Listen360 to actively monitor feedback, providing valuable insights to enhance service and delivery.

background also equipped him to identify strategic business opportunities.

Expanding posed challenges, yet John embraced them. In January 2022, he formed a team to manage his centres, emphasising not only team strength but also investing in customer acquisition and staff training, leading to enhanced business success.

They revolutionised all operational aspects, from cost control to instilling a values-driven culture.

Beyond business, they fostered a strong sense of community within John’s team and across the Mathnasium network.
