Changi’s landmark Jewel complex: ‘Where the world meets Singapore’
Customers can now enjoy an additional 280 shopping & dining options at the new 135,700sq m Jewel Changi Airport complex, in addition to the airport’s 400 retail/service stores and 130 food & beverage outlets. Andrew Pentol reports.
O
ver the years, Changi Airport Group (CAG) has continued to impress and
surprise travellers with its impressive retail offer and customer experience. At the time of writing, CAG was
again on the cusp of something special with the full opening of Jewel Changi Airport just days away. This was after selected members
of the public were given a sneak preview of the new lifestyle destination. Developed by Jewel Changi Airport
Trustee Pte Ltd, a joint-venture between CAG and CapitaLand, the 135,700sq m complex comprises a total of 10 storeys; five above ground and five basement storeys. The facility, built on the site of the
former Terminal 1 open air car park, is designed by renowned architect Moshe Safdie and features a dome- shaped façade. Shoppers can now enjoy an
additional 280 shopping and dining options, alongside the airport’s 400 retail and service stores and 130 food and beverage outlets. Visitors to Jewel can look forward
to various new-to-Singapore brands including Emack & Bolio’s, JW360˚, Lavender, Oysho and Pokémon Center Singapore. These labels will open their
first stores alongside familiar homegrown favourites such as In Good Company, Supermama and Tiger Street Lab. Jewel also has a dedicated
assortment of homegrown brands on Level 1. This is meant to be a one- stop shop for travellers looking to bring home a piece of Singapore. Multiple retailing formats are
present at Jewel, including duplexes, outdoor terraces and spaces within the Canopy Park on the top level. Several established brands such as Bengawan Solo, Nike and

Tiger Street Lab will offer new concepts and exclusive-to-Jewel merchandise. Other highlights include a
40-metre HSBC Rain Vortex; the world’s tallest indoor waterfall. This is surrounded by the Shiseido Forest Valley. Play attractions such as the
Manulife Sky Nets, Hedge Maze, Mirror Maze and Discovery Slides, designed to blend in with the indoor garden environment will open on 10 June 2019. The Changi Experience Studio on
Level 4 (now open) will offer visitors the chance to enjoy interactive games, projection experiences, immersive shows and gallery exhibits.
