Air Astana launches low- cost subsidiary


FINANCE TEAMS ADMIT THEY DO NOT MAXIMISE T&E


WHILE NEARLY ALL FINANCE executives say travel and expense (T&E) claims are essential to their business, 85 per cent admit their organisation could be doing more to optimise these processes, according to research by KDS. The study, Strategic Spending: A new T&E approach for finance, surveyed 616 executives from across Europe who manage T&E budgets. The majority (82 per cent) of respondents said that by implementing automated T&E reporting processes, they had been better able


to comply with requirements, such as duty-of-care, data protection and tax rules. Although 60 per cent said they were confident of the security of their travellers’ data, 40 per cent were not. The survey also found that while 44 per


cent of employees travel and are likely to submit claims, 26 per cent do not travel but still have expenses to file. With 70 per cent of staff submitting expenses, KDS says that implementing automated processes can have an impact beyond the travel function. n See Corporate Cards and Payments 2019


KAZAKH FLAG CARRIER Air Astana has launched its low- cost airline FlyArystan. The new carrier will operate


domestic routes from Almaty International airport to Taraz and Uralsk. It will use an Airbus 320 configured with 180 economy seats for both daily services. Air Astana hopes for


FlyArystan to operate a fleet of at least 15 aircraft by 2022. It will initially offer low-cost domestic flights, but the goal is to launch regional international services in the mid-term.


MARRIOTT EYES MIDDLE EAST AND AFRICA


MARRIOTT INTERNATIONAL EXPECTS to add 19 new properties and 3,000 rooms to its Middle East and Africa portfolio in 2019. The group’s luxury brands have 25 properties in development through 2023, including anticipated openings of W Muscat and W Yas Island and the recent debut of the W Dubai – The Palm. St Regis is due to debut in Jordan and Egypt, while the JW Marriott Muscat Convention Center is set to open in Oman. Marriott’s premium brands will add four new hotels by the end of the year, including Marriott Hotels and Marriott Executive Apartments in

Riyadh’s Diplomatic Quarter. It also expects to open an Executive Apartments property in Madinah later this year. The Autograph Collection is due to make its debut in Kenya with Sankara Nairobi (pictured), while Marriott Hotels will open its second location in Algeria in the capital city of Algiers. Four Points by Sheraton has opened properties in Sharjah (UAE) and Setif (Algeria) and is on track to open two more hotels in Tanzania and Pakistan. Residence Inn by Marriott will debut in Algeria, while Protea Hotels by Marriott Naguru Skyz will expand in Uganda. Element Hotels will launch its first property in Tanzania – Element Dar es Salaam.
