In February, North American casino operator Peninsula Pacific Entertainment (P2E) was given a 60 day deadline by the Louisiana Gaming Control Board to reopen its Diamond Jacks Casino and Resorts or risk losing the licence altogether.
Peninsula Pacific Entertainment had wanted to relocate its licence from Bossier City after keeping it closed in May 2020, following the lifting of pandemic restrictions but its request was rejected.
Annulling the company’s licence and retendering it would launch a process that could take up to five years for the state to complete with all the necessary bids and background checks.
Gaming board chairman Ronnie Johns said it was ‘extremely disturbing’ that P2E had not yet determined next steps for the Diamond Jacks property since closing nearly two years ago.
monumental cultural efforts in our ancestral lands,” said Byron Bighorse, CEO of Osage Casinos. “Our casino has been nationally recognised for providing world-class gaming, and we are excited to bring this opportunity to Lake of the Ozarks.”
Phase one of the process includes construction of a casino, sports bar, restaurant, and meeting space. Additionally, it also includes a hotel, which will have general hotel rooms, suites, a fitness and exercise facility, a pool and hot tub, and a pool bar. Phase one construction is expected to start upon approval from the Department of Interior.
“First of all, they have to donate the property into trust, and that trust is run by the United States government, Department of Interior, not by the tribe,” said Mike Leara, of the Missouri Gaming Commission. “One of the hurdles that I see with the Department of Interior, for the Osage Nation, is that they’re skipping over into another state, that’s going to be a challenge I think.”
