ITALY ONLINE SKS365

The CasinoBeats Summit conference and exhibition is set to feature an agenda that tackles the big issues in igaming

development, innovation and strategy when it returns to the InterContinental in St Julian’s, Malta on May 24 – 26.

Te measures need to be acceptable and still attractive to the consumer otherwise they will seek not regulated offerings. Especially on the Internet non-licensed and unregulated operators are just one click away. Te regulated offering must always be attractive enough for customers otherwise the regulator misses his objective to channel the gambling of the population to regulated operators.

Will local and regional regulatory limitations on land-based gaming fuel further online growth through land-based affiliation? Are multichannel models the key source for success?

We are big supporters of the multi-channel approach and we have invested heavily in making sure that our customers have the same entertainment experience, both in shops and on digital devices. Te rules for both channels should be the same and the regulations should see it as one regulation with multiple ways of communication.

By setting the rules for regulated land-based and online operators the regulator should have

Is there a risk that the exponential growth of online will see increases in taxation to compensate for a lack of growth in retail?

We don't believe that further taxation is on the way. Te impression we have now observing our institutional stakeholders (ADM and Government) is of an attitude aimed at safeguarding the sustainability of the gaming sector, which should be treated with equal dignity to any other industry. Going forward both channels should be treated equally.

The Ministry has called on the ADM to be granted more powers to coordinate the investigation of unlicensed operators with the federal police, recommending that gambling tax evasion be treated as a high-level crime. Are the potential new powers enough to stop illegal gambling offered via the web by criminals who use IT platforms outside the country?

We fully support the fight against illegal gambling, but we believe that the advertising ban introduced by the Dignity Decree has weakened the defences against illegal operators.
