North Carolina signs in Sports Betting Laws


With a market launch by mid-June 2024, House Bill 347 authorises and regulates wagering on professional, college and amateur sports and on horse racing.

NORTH CAROLINA LEGISLATION


NEW JERSEY - New Jersey’s casinos, horse tracks, sports betting operators and online gaming generated $471m in May, up 9.4 per cent from a year ago, making it Atlantic City’s second best ever figures for the month of May.


Revenue from in-person gamblers dropped by 2.4 per cent from a year ago to $227.3m with only three casinos; Borgata, Hard Rock and Ocean taking more money from in-person gamblers than 2019. Golden Nugget generated $56.2m, an increase of 18.2 per cent. Hard Rock brought in $48.1m, a fall of almost one per cent. Ocean took $33.5m, up 21.3 per cent.

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper has signed House Bill 347, Sports Wagering/Horse Racing Wagering, into law with the aim of a market launch by mid-June 2024 at the latest. Te bipartisan legislation will authorise and regulate wagering on professional, college and amateur sports and on horse racing.


Te state Lottery Commission will grant 12 licences for operators to take online sports bets with a further eight sport venues able to operate a sportsbook. Tese include Bank of America Stadium, Spectrum Center, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Quail Hollow Country Club, North Wilkesboro Speedway, PNC Arena, WakeMed Soccer Park, and Sedgefield Country Club.


“As we move forward, we should work to make sure more of the revenue is used to invest in our public schools, teachers and students. It will benefit taxpayers by giving them a portion of the earnings,” said Governor Roy Cooper. “Sports wagering is already happening in our state. Surrounding states here and across the country are already taking advantage. Tis legislation allows the state of North Carolina to regulate it and to put safeguards on it, as well as provide


funding for helping people with problem gambling.”


House Bill 347 charges the North Carolina State Lottery Commission with regulating sports wagering and will be responsible for issuing licences and collecting any licence application fees. Licences will be valid for five years and types of licences include interactive sports wagering licence, service provider licence and sports wagering supplier licence.


Te legislation will create two ways to place a sports wager – in-person at a place of public accommodation or as a registered player via an interactive account. Te interactive sports wagering operator would be responsible for ensuring the identity and age of any person trying to place a wager. To place a wager, a person must be at least 21 years of age.


Te bill invests the proceeds collected in the Department of Health and Human Services for gambling addiction education and treatment programs; North Carolina Amateur Sports; 13 public universities; major events fund to help bring sporting events and festivals to the state.


Nevada Green Valley Ranch set for transformation

Away from the gaming areas, the Henderson resort destination is set to add two new dining offerings by renowned chefs, Eric and Bruce Bromberg of Bromberg Bros. Blue Ribbon Restaurants. Adding to the resort’s dining portfolio early next year is a Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill as it expands to Henderson with a 136-seat restaurant featuring sushi and all the hot kitchen specialties that have made the restaurant a favorite at Red Rock Casino.


Te resort’s Backyard pool deck received a refresh this spring to enhance the cabanas, daybeds, chaise lounges, umbrellas and café seating area.


Ontario


After delays due to the pandemic, the time finally came to break ground on the future Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa in Ontario. Originally announced in 2017, the $350m project will take over and expand the existing Rideau Carleton Casino.


Te new casino will boast 1,500 slots, 40 table games, a baccarat room, and a sportsbook as well as a high- limit area with a lounge for VIP guests. It will also have a six storey, 150-room Hard Rock Hotel with 22 suites and retail shops, as well as seven restaurants and three bar and lounge areas.


Hard Rock International executives were joined by elected officials, and business and community leaders as they unveiled new renderings and details for the tourism and entertainment destination in the national capital.
