Lever Actuated Open Top Spring Pin Socket for BGA256
EAGAN, MN — Ironwood Electronics recently introduced a new stamped spring pin socket addressing high performance requirements for testing
capacitance 0.097 pF. Socket tem- perature range is –67 to +356°F (–55 to +180°C). Socket features a clamshell lid design for ease of chip replacement in production environments along with precise ball to pin alignment via floating pin guide. It also has an integrat- ed compression plate for vertical force actuation without distorting device position.
The socket is mounted using
supplied hardware on the target PCB with no soldering, and uses
a small footprint. The small foot- print allows inductors, resistors and decoupling capacitors to be placed very close to the device for impedance tuning. The BGA device is placed
into the socket and lid closed by snapping to the latch. Vertical force is applied by turning the lever that actuates a cam which in turn compresses a spring loaded plate onto the BGA device. The socket features a cen- tral opening for thermocouples to
be placed close to the device top surface or thermal stream to be flown to heat the device to specif- ic temperature. This socket can be used for quick device screen- ing, device characterization at extreme temperatures as well as
