duction capabilities with a new factory in Carson City, Nevada. For the new facility, the company was in the market for a 2D X- ray inspection system. “In a time with crazy supply chain prob-
R
lems, we were in dire need of a 2D X-ray ma- chine as we ramped up production in Carson City,” says Jacob Andresen, manufacturing engineer, Rocket EMS. The company prides itself on attention
to detail and exceeding its clients’ expecta- tions. To do that requires partnerships with companies whose values align — innovative technology, as well as excellent quality, flex- ibility and support. While visiting the 2022 IPC APEX Expo,
Rocket EMS came across Scienscope Interna- tional and learned about its X-Scope 1800 X- ray inspection system. After learning about the machine, Andresen says Rocket EMS or- dered the system on the spot. He was most impressed with the quick
lead time. Lead times were several months for most manufacturers; however, Scien- scope’s machine was able to be delivered up- on receipt of a purchase order. In addition to the lead time, Andresen
says that he was impressed with the afford- able price point and that the program - ming/reporting capabilities were exactly what Rocket EMS was looking for.

X-Scope 1800 Scienscope’s X-Scope 1800 is an entry-
level machine with high-level features. It comes standard with a micro-focus X-ray source and CMOS digital flat panel image de- tector with tilting for oblique angle views — at an affordable price.
Additional features include a fully inte-
grated, 90 kV high-power microfocus closed X-ray tube with a spot size down to 7µ. Its color mapping camera with a zoom window provides accessible location and identifica- tion of faults. Z-axis movement of the X-ray tube and
detector, computer controlled kV and mA set- tings, a variable speed X/Y stage, and an in- tuitive GUI provide the capabilities to create advanced inspection routines. “The system improved our manufactur-
ing capabilities at our new Nevada factory by properly allowing our engineers to inspect and quantify solder joint quality for all bot- tom-terminated components,” says An- dresen. “At first I didn’t know what to expect from the machine, but I have been extremely pleased with the X-ray image quality, relia- bility and ease of use.” As important as capability is service and
Scienscope did not disappoint. “It has been great working with Danny
Lumbreras [national sales manager and sen- ior product specialist at Scienscope] from when we first met at IPC APEX, through the customer visit, and during demos,” adds An- dresen. “He is knowledgeable about Scien- cope’s technologies and shared a wealth of useful information.” Andresen is considering purchasing ad-
ditional Scienscope equipment, including the company’s automated X-ray component coun- Continued on next page
