Future-Oriented: The Electronics Industry in 10 Years
By Amy Leary, eBOM W
hen discussing electronic components, a topic that always arises is how the electronics industry has evolved over the years. We regular- ly hear the phrases “technology was so different when I was younger”
or “we never had this back in our day” thrown around. Rather than focus on the past and what we have already accomplished, it is valuable to look toward the future. Where will the electronics industry be in 10 years? The electronic component market is one of the fastest-growing market
sectors globally. Quoted from Global Web Index, 48 percent of digital con- sumers say having the latest technological products is very important to them. The demand for the latest electronic devices has been trending for many years and will grow for many more. According to Market Watch, the electronic component sector is expected to grow roughly 5.6 percent over the next five years. Not only are electronic sales predicted to increase within the next five years, so is the sophistication of the components themselves.
Ever-Advancing Technology In recent years we’ve seen advanced technology, such as facial recogni-
tion, swipe-less cards and virtual reality. However, looking to the future, com- panies such as Bosch are paving the way for 3D displays in vehicles, which could be the future of automotive technology. “We are definitely expecting a shift in the industries we serve,” says
Radka Pachinger, technical sales and marketing engineer at Rhopoint Com- ponents. “Some of the traditional ones we offer expertise in now will slow down, but the emerging markets, such as renewable energy, robotics, 3D printing, or vertical aerospace, will grow. We must work hard to make sure we stay up to date with new technologies and markets.” In 10 years, we may ex-
pect many vehicles to have 3D display screens to improve driving techniques and create a more luxurious feel. Follow- ing the trend of exciting, new automotive prospects, Rene- sas Electronics claims that Nissan Motors has adopted its automotive technology. The company has stat- ed that the driver assistance system combines navigated highway driving with hands-off, single-lane driving capabilities. Perhaps in 10 years, many ve- hicles will have hands-off technology, making it unnecessary to drive yourself. In 10 years, the electronics industry may advance far enough that there

will grow at a CAGR of 22.8 percent. Demand for robotics is growing at such a rate, that by 2029, robots could
take over many manual jobs, such as cleaning and construction. “In 10 years, we will see technology continue to take huge leaps forward
as the digital revolution spreads to every corner of the world,” says Kevin Hess, senior vice president of marketing at Mouser Electron- ics. “IoT will be in full effect, with more electronic devices and appliances operating with a simple tap on a mobile app. Robotics and AI will also have a larger role in our world, mak- ing systems smart er, faster and more efficient.” The best way to keep up
with electronics is to always re- search the latest components, devices and trends. Suppliers should regularly research what consumers want. This can be done by online surveys, which are free and easy to set up. Manufacturers should strive to manufacture electronics in the most en-

vironmentally friendly way, as there is growing awareness of the topic. Man- ufacturers must also be sure their products are being built for the latest elec- tronic devices. The electronics industry will grow and thrive for many years to come. One thing is certain, in 10 years, the advancing technology industry
will impact all of our daily lives, making use smarter and more efficient. Contact: MMG Publishing US, Ltd., 8400 Normandale Lake Boulevard,
