es almost 22,000 ft2 (2,000m2) in the Science and Technology park TECMA- IA, in Maia’s industrial zone. This is where Critical Manufacturing devel- ops products and services for advanced manufacturing markets, including the new generation Critical Manufactur- ing MES. The proximity to the Univer- sity of Porto Engineering campus pro- vides a crucial link to R&D centers and facilitates the engagement of skilled human resources.
Partnership with ASMPT In August 2018, Critical Manu-
facturing announced a strategic in- vestment by ASMPT. ASMPT is a global company that offers cutting- edge solutions and materials for the semiconductor assembly and packag- ing and SMT industries. The compa- ny’s solutions are deployed in a range of markets, including electronics, mo- bile communications, automotive, in- dustrial, LED, and alternative energy. Critical Manufacturing has sig-
nificant expertise in the integration and networking of SMT machines and systems, as well as IT systems and cloud solutions. This strategic investment is designed to accelerate ASMPT’s efforts to build a portfolio of Industry 4.0 solutions and will boost its software competence to en- able smart factories. “We want to focus more on com-
prehensive software solutions to help customers improve their quality, flexibility and efficiency with smart factories. Initiatives like the Hermes Standard and ADAMOS already rep- resent major steps in this direction, but we want to speed up our integra- tion and smart manufacturing capa- bilities and extend our reach beyond hardware solutions,” says Günter Lauber, CEO of ASMPT SMT Solu- tions Segment and serving concur- rently as an executive committee member responsible for ASMPT’s software solutions, explaining the ra- tionale behind the investment. Francisco Almada Lobo, CEO of
Critical Manufacturing, says, “We are extremely pleased to be integrat- ed into ASMPT and have access to its vast resources and customer/support networks. We share the same vision and a common focus on delivering the most advanced Industry 4.0 solu- tions to enable the digital world.” The significant advances in au-
tomation and equipment technolo- gies mean that equipment is now generating huge amounts of data. Critical’s modern MES is ideally placed and designed to transform that data into intelligence to advance everything from product innovation, efficiency, productivity and quality across lines, factories and global fac- tory networks. “Our combined knowledge and
resources will accelerate our roadmap to bring strong business value and competitive advantage to our current customers and innova- tive manufacturers across our indus- try segments,” he continues.

processes in the context of advanced manufacturing environments. The full team embraces the challenge of mak- ing Critical Manufacturing a premier solution provider for high-tech manu- facturing. Each of the company’s founders has more than 15 years of ex- perience as a software solution pro - vider to the semiconductor industry. Along with a group of top analysts and developers, the team has strategic fo- cus on discrete high-tech manufactur- ing industries.

providers, joint design manufactur- ers (JDMs) and original design man- ufacturers (ODMs) pose both oppor- tunities and risks for everyone in the electronics assembly supply chain. To remain competitive, anyone as- sembling SMT PCBs, subassemblies and box builds must produce short runs and make inline changes, main-
taining high quality while lowering costs.
PCB and IC Substrates. PCB man- ufacturing companies are under pressure to innovate at a breakneck pace. Customers want ever-smaller, denser and more powerful products for handheld, wearable and mobile electronics, as well as new applica- tions in the Internet of Things (IoT), communications, automotive, med- ical, and aerospace markets.
