Fostering Lasting Connections: SMT Hybrid Packaging Becomes SMTconnect
By Michael Skinner, Editor T
he well-established electronics manufactur- ing industry show, formerly known as SMT Hybrid Packaging, has received a new name. Starting in 2019 the event will be known as SMTconnect. The exhibition and technology days are set to take place at the Messe in Nuremberg, Germany, from May 7 to 9, 2019.
According to Mesago Messe Frankfurt GmbH, the name of any event is designed to immediately communicate the main subject, as well as its unique features. At the same time, the needs of the community should be mirrored to maintain value over a longer pe- riod. When it comes to the former “SMT Hy- brid Packaging,” these unique features in- clude the bridges and connections built by the trade exhibition.
The connections between people and technology and the link between the varying technologies in the supply chain are valu- able, as well as networking that takes place between people attending the event. This event is designed to create contacts and con- nections and its new name is meant to re- flect that.

users, suppliers, service providers, and customers. With the goal of reaching new target groups and providing the community with even more opportunities to connect and master the challenges posed by today’s technology, SMTconnect will proactively address nu- merous topics. This will include the new staging of the electronic manufacturing services in anew special showcase area called “EMS Park.”
Other elements of the show are being adapted. The tagline has been updated to “Solutions for Electronic Assemblies and Systems.” Changes have also been made to the look of the event, freshening up its image.
SMTconnect has attracted innovative exhibitors and visitors for the past 30 years.

As a solutions-oriented exhibition, SMTconnect seeks to bring the electronics community together under one roof to tackle the current challenges in microelectronics. It also places more of a focus on topics with de- velopment potential to facilitate valuable, ap- plications-based connections among the right contacts in the industry. As of 2019, SMTcon- nect will also expand its coverage of electron- ic manufacturing services.
“The event has been a constant in the market for 30 years,” says Anthula Parashoudi, vice presi-
