Würth to Build Technology Center in Munich

Waldenburg, Germany —Würth Elek- tronik eiSos is investing in a new facil- ity in Munich, Germany, to be called the “HIC — High-Tech Innovation Center.” The new site is planned to be a hub for developing new technologies and products and is expected to be completed in 2020. It spans 87,000 ft2 (8,082m2) of land and will accommo- date 147,000 ft2 (13,700m2) of office and lab space. The company will be creating many skilled jobs at the HIC, with at least 500 employees there de- veloping and conducting research. “Despite having rented addition-

al space for and at our current Garch- ing design center near Munich, we still need more room. We decided to build a new facility and consolidate our devel- opment expertise in Freiham,” said Oliver Konz, CEO of Würth Elektron- ik eiSos. Thomas Schrott, also CEO Würth Elektronik eiSos, said, “With the HIC, we will be expanding our ac- tivities in the Munich metropolitan area and creating a global R&D center and highly attractive workplace for electronics specialists from different countries and cultures who want to ac-

Jabil Introduces Additive Manufacturing Solution

St. Petersburg, FL — Jabil has intro- duced a complete solution for creat- ing, integrating and validating cus- tom-engineered materials for addi- tive manufacturing. The availability of Jabil engineered materials rein- forces the company’s 3D printing po- sition, while driving further adoption of 3D printing to produce highly functional parts for diverse and unique customer applications. “Jabil is taking advantage of

its rich history in materials science innovation to advance the entire ad- ditive manufacturing market for- ward and produce custom materials in weeks — not months,” said John

Dulchinos, vice president of digital manufacturing, Jabil. “Our ability to integrate new engineered materi- als into our ecosystem of 3D print- ers and rigorous processes will transform a new generation of addi- tive manufacturing applications, in- cluding those for heavily regulated industries, such as aerospace, auto- motive, industrial, and healthcare.” According to a 2019 survey of

3D printing stakeholders sponsored by Jabil, expected growth rates for use of 3D printing have skyrocketed, despite lingering challenges with part quality and materials. More than half of the 300 survey partici-

pants reported that the cost and availability of materials is an obsta- cle for increasing 3D printing adop- tion within their organizations. Jabil will evaluate, qualify and

validate materials alongside certi- fied machines and processes as part of an integrated MPM solution that matches specific part performance with application requirements. This comprehensive approach ensures greater availability of unique mate- rials while reducing time-to-market and cost to produce the highest- quality parts. Jabil has opened a materials innovation center in Minnesota to

deliver complete 3D printing solu- tions under one roof, encompassing polymer formulations, compound development and ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS) certifi- cation. Additive manufacturing en- gineers, chemists, materials scien- tists and production experts consult with customers, leverage Jabil’s materials science innovations and oversee each step of making custom

powders and filaments. Contact: Jabil, 10560 Dr. Mar-

Spectrum Technologies Makes its Mark on Mars

Fort Worth, TX — On the 26th of No- vember, 2019, the NASA Mars In- Sight spacecraft started its dramatic descent toward the Martian surface. After separating from the cruise stage, it entered the upper Martian atmosphere at a height of 80 miles (129 km) and at a speed of 12,300 mph (19,800 km/h). After deploying its parachute and landing safely, mission control received a signal that the spacecraft had successfully touched down at Elysium Planitia. Spectrum Technologies, Ltd.,

supplied its Spectrum Nova laser wire marking equipment to Lockheed Mar- tin Space, which was used to process and identify all of the wiring of the complex electrical wiring system for NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s Mars InSight lander. Spectrum provided a fully auto-

mated Nova 820 UV laser wire mark- ing system, in 2014. This is designed to be used in the initial stages of elec- trical harness production to laser mark, measure and cut wires to length. Apart from using the equip-

ment for the InSight program, Lock- heed uses the equipment for many other different programs, including the wiring produced for the Kennedy Space Center for the Orion program. InSight (Interior Exploration us-

ing Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport) is NASA’s latest Mars lander, which is designed to ex- plore the deep interior of Mars. Lock- heed Martin is the InSight prime con- tractor responsible for the complete spacecraft system. Following landing, the mission will deploy instruments,

and begin its 2-year mission. Dr. Peter Dickinson, CEO at

Spectrum, said, “We may only have played a small part in this interplan- etary project but I and all the team at Spectrum are exceptionally proud and excited to be associated with the

Mars Insight program. “ Contact: Spectrum Technologies
