Schleuniger and TQI Maximize Quality and Speed Process Times

Manchester, NH — Total Quality Instru- mentation, Inc., (TQI) located in Cookeville, Tennessee, manufactures a variety of prod- ucts that support the automobile develop- ment and heavy trucking industries. These include wiring harnesses and instrumenta- tion solutions. With a primary mission to provide the


highest quality products possible, it is im- portant to TQI that it has the right equip- ment in place to accurately process applica- tions at its more than 10,000 ft2 (929m2) fa- cility.


Schleuniger Equipment In 2015, TQI purchased its first piece


of Schleuniger equipment, a UniCrimp 100 benchtop crimping machine. Prior to that, most of its applications were done by hand. When the demand required that the compa- ny automate more of its wiring processes, it looked to Schleuniger for help. “It just makes sense for us to use Schle-


uniger equipment; it’s durable and doesn’t break,” says TQI President, Richard Gro- gan. Over a period of two years the company purchased several more UniCrimp 100 ma- chines, a StripCrimp 200 stripping and crimping machine, a SawInspect System 6 for crimp quality assurance, and two Multi- Strip 9480 cut and strip machines. wire sizes and colors. The MultiStrip 9480 provides the flexibility that the company needs to deliver the highest quality products to its customers. According to Grogan, “The accuracy of the MultiStrip 9480 prevents re- cuts, and the durability of the rollers is un- matched. And because the software inte- grates with Microsoft Excel, we are able to send the production list to the machine where the operator can follow simple in- structions to load the material, run the prod- uct and rapidly move to final assembly. By integrating Schleuniger equipment


into its manufacturing process, TQI was able to yield an estimated 50 percent de- crease in its overall process time. “The accu- racy of the StripCrimp 200 is unparalleled,” says Grogan. “It strips and crimps the wire to perfection. There is no terminal distor- tion, which gives us a dialed-in, repeatable standard.” Grogan expects that as the need for smaller wires continues to grow, TQI will need to invest in more stripping and crimp- ing machines.
