Hard Seat Micro-Dispense Valve Handles Aggressive Fluids

A new Hard Seat VHS Micro-Dispense Valve which offers precise, repeatable, non-contact dispensing of fluids in the nanolitre to microlitre range, is a recent addition to Lee Products established range of VHS solenoid valves. This option features a precision Zirconia ball and seat instead of a traditional elastomeric seal which ensures resistance to aggressive fluids such as DMSO (Dimethyl Sulfoxide). These, and other ‘aggressive fluids’, would normally attack the ‘standard’ elastomer type materials used in other types of less durable micro-dispense valves.

The Hard Seat VHS valve’s small size and weight (45.2mm max length, 5.6mm diameter and 10 grams) means it can be fitted directly over 96 well plates. The valve is designed for 2-way, normally closed operation and the wetted materials comprise stainless steel, PEEK and Zirconia.

The valves feature a number of port configurations to facilitate quick and convenient connections to Lee’s 062 MINSTAC fittings and press-on tubing. The 062 MINSTAC outlet can be used with Lee 062 MINSTAC tubing or atomising nozzles. Custom configurations and voltages are also available to suit specific applications.

Improved Pumping Speed with Unique Automatic Evaporation

Evaporations under vacuum conditions are very demanding of pump performance and vacuum control. Vacuubrand´s new chemistry pumping unit, the PC 3001 VARIOpro, provides an integrated, user-friendly solution and supersedes its highly regarded, precise and durable predecessor, the PC 3001 VARIO. The new ‘pro’ version features an improved pumping speed of 2 m³/h, thus expanding the range of application possibilities.

This new and improved version enables even faster duty cycles with large volumes of vapour and numerous process steps. At the heart of this extremely compact pumping unit is a chemical-resistant diaphragm pump that achieves an ultimate vacuum of 2 mbar, and 4 mbar even with gas ballast open for continuous condensate purge. This enables even high-boiling solvents to be easily evaporated without condensate building up inside the pump.

The integrated vacuum controller, the CVC 3000, maintains optimal control of the motor speed and, thanks to its unique automatic function, enables the pumping unit to perform evaporations automatically, e.g., with a rotary evaporator, without the need for programming or supervision.

When any vapour pressure change is detected, and the pump reacts immediately, optimising the vacuum without operator intervention.

As a result, other important laboratory work can be carried out at the same time, facilitating greater workflow. The continuously optimised vacuum results in high evaporation rates, reducing process times considerably - typically by more than 30%.

ADVERTORIAL Higher Productivity Liquid Handling

Integra displayed liquid handling systems designed to increase your productivity at SLAS 2013. Visitors to SLAS Booth 520 had the chance to see and discuss Integra's latest liquid handling products including a new handheld 384-channel electronic pipette, a multifunctional rapid reagent dispenser and a range of electronic pipettes offering variable tip spacing.

At this important event Integra launched the VIAFLO 384 - an advanced version of the highly popular VIAFLO 96 electronic pipette. The new system is capable of both 96- and 384-channel pipetting and therefore the ideal instrument for users already working with 384-well plates or looking to generate higher productivity from their microplate applications. Also on display was the VIAFLO 96 - the market leading 96-channel handheld electronic pipette that enables fast, precise and easy simultaneous transfer of 96 samples. The VIAFLO 96 has been designed to be used just like a standard handheld pipette. Therefore, no special skills or training are required to operate it.

Available in 4, 6, 8, and 12-channel models with a variety of volume ranges, the Voyager electronic pipette uniquely enables pipette tip spacing to be adjusted at the touch of a button. This allows the Voyager to accelerate the transfer of samples between tubes, plates and a variety of additional labware.
